Would putting up a glass wall along the pillars and blocking in that big area on the right clash with the retro setting of this room?

Not it you changed the wall coloring and the carpet/chair/table styling

anything to draw attention away from that disaster of a ceiling is worth many dollars

The chairs and carpet can be taken out completely. It’s some office space I have and I think there could be a better utilization of that space, however it looks really nice being big and open so I don’t really want to stick in walls and chop it up.

It’s all original interior from 1910. It’s expected to look like shit to some degree. Granted the renters in it love the “vintage feel” of it.

I'd probably go with big openwork screens, you could probably get them run out by someone with a big CNC for less than you'll get that much sheet glass. Like this but instead of abstract and fucky you could choose something nice that fits the overall feel.

OP What's the purpose of this room?
What building is it?

Do you own it?

Do you play games in it?
Is it for Alcoholics?

Yeah just change the wall coloring to something more neutral for sure. Watch a couple episodes of Fixer Upper (great show desu).

>>1770292
this or frosted glass if feasible

Investment basically. I rent 2 store fronts downstairs and 10 offices (in the pic) up stairs. The big space isn’t ever used by the offices so I want to do something with it, i just don’t know what without taking away from the “vintage” vibe it currently has.

For sure has a church side room AA meeting room vibe. Needs more mismatched chairs though

in that case DEFINITELY watch Fixer Upper. The aesthetic they choose for all of their homes is massively popular. Easily combines antique with new.

When you mentioned the glass wall at first
I had presumed this was your home/personal space

You could seal that glass wall and that entire floor into a recording studio

Alternatively
With a nice glass wall
You could rent the space for corporate presentations and breakfasts

Congrats on having the huge amount of profitable space

I don't think Op's talking about a glass external wall, just a divider along the pillars

I'm aware.

The little hallway it would create and potentially soundproofed room reminds me of the conference room from an old job of mine.

>> No.1770316

>>1770309
Yea this. That way you could still keep the “openness” of the room while having a divided room.

do a thin solid wall and print this large to put along it

It can be fine. Consider the 1940’s movies of office buildings, like “The Big Sleep”, where the office areas are separated from the hallway by walls of rippled glass.

yes
It feels like you upgraded from the trailer park and wanted to keep the memory of your experience there alive, so you skinned a bunch of RVs and placed them on your ceiling as a keepsake.
I bet if you stripped the paint from those pillars you'd get something that looks real nice.

Why so much hate? I like old buildings.

Unless you want to make a hallway, don't bother with walling/glassing up the pillars. It just constricts / shrinks the room.

Remove some pillars, because they break up the open space of the room. That is what I would do. Obviously you can't just remove them, so you'll probably need outside help on this to reinforce what they are supporting. And the ceiling is ugly as >>1770286
said. Everything else is ok.

normal wavy ceilings don't call attention to themselves because they're featureless so they don't cast shadows on itself.
yours looks like bleached farmland.

As a matter of aesthetics, if you are going for an obvious pattern--stick with the pattern. if you are not going for a pattern, don't follow a pattern.

your ceiling follows a pattern, it deviates from that pattern by being ridiculously wavy and casting shadows on itself, so it's objectively ugly.

You might not like it, but pic related is what peak performance looks like.

>>1770766
(Not OP) Is there a lighting change that can de-emphasize the ceiling irregularity? I’m thinking fixtures that cast the light downward only, and not cast shadows on the valleys of this surface ?
