Solid waste management.

Few weeks ago I found a random thread here where you'd post your current tinkering project. I posted mine, it was a 25gal white opaque tank that I'd grind my RV sewage into.

I'd made a wooden frame, bolted my macerator and a 12vdc pump to it. The transfer pump was to send the contents to a sewage hole I couldn't drive to via a 3/4in garden hose or pump into a larger 250 gallon holding tank for a septic company to come drain for me at a later time.

Well I finally finished the wiring harness and swich panel.

That small 16-3 wire is for future, if I want to add like a light or something small. The open switch is for the Harbor Freight 12vdc transfer pump used to pump from the tank to a larger tank or to a sewage hole I can't drive to via 3/4in garden hose. The transfer pump is on the apparatus, it's waiting to have the power cord snipped and lugged for install, then I can bolt the panel to the frame.

If y'all don't mind... I'd like to image dump and pick your collective brains for any tips, tricks or wisdom... Maybe shoot me in a better direction than the one I'd taken with this build.

I'm not done cutting the sheet metal, I'll be adding some grommets and reliefs on the metal so I can safely transition the wire through it so it can be installed and not worried over.

If I were building it, I would have the macerator pump outlet going into the top bung on the barrel so that it wouldn't have any back pressure on it. and wouldn't put any pressure on the other things on the other valves on the "gravity flow" side of the barrel. OR another option would be to add another big valve after the T where the macerator pumps into the barrel and be able to isolate the drain side of the system from the macerator pump.


I would also add an air vent to the top part of the barrel and have it have a hose on it that went up several feet before looping around and going back down through a hole in the floor. That way if it overfills it will pump onto the ground instead of getting somewhere in your trailer.

And I would put that 12v transfer pump right next to where it comes out of the big plastic T so that it will prime quickly and easily and put a ball valve in front of it so that you can shut it off and replace the pump if needed without getting showered with shit.

That hose "Y" connection up on the top bung, is that for washing out the barrel? Air vent?

And finally I'd put some kind of float in there so that it turns on a bulb or siren or both to let you know that it is full and time empty it ASAP.

Forgot to mention a small detail, I put a DPDT switch for the macerator. I have forward and backward so I can hopefully have some sort of maneuverability in the event of a "log jam" without having to break the line.

That top "y" is the air vent. I have the transfer pump where it's at so that if I need to break the lines open under load I most certainly can without spilling a drop. The ball valve that's at the tank is the main, the second ball valve out on the end of the PVC is the gravity drain, I have a threaded barbed coupling and hose for that. I had to cut the wood paneling for the hose attachment.

As it stands, I can reconfigure the garden hosing to drain my big 250 gallon tank, making trips to the local RV sewage dump. I have this one 25 gal tank (pictured) and another 30 gal tank next to it that I haven't put in a box yet.

Small, can be put in a box, doesn't look like a shit barrel, I can just roll up and open the tap and drop 50 gallons of poo where ever I inconspicuously want.

Probably because on my RV the waste water pipes are 4in inner diameter so the turds can easily flow; here I am getting brave and grinding this shit down to 1/8th inch or better and running it through a fucking garden hose. Pretty fucking sure I said this was for an RV. Just typical of someone not American to jump the gate and start bashing an American for something they did. You're stupid. But I hope you learn from me if you ever have to figure out how to drain an RV waste tank yourself.

Also I forgot to mention that I ran two on/off switches. One for the 12vdc pump and one for "future". The future power is already ran, it's just tucked where I want it. I need to find a light fixture and install it. I plan on putting a simple 12vdc light just in the back side of that crossmember that the green pump is on, I noticed I can see the level as it gets fuller and fuller. My intention is to stand there and babysit this pump. I don't want to turn it on and walk away. There were six or more instances where my daughter had flushed large amounts of paper towels and they'd caused major blockages where I had to break the line.

I was smart during the build, I'd placed the macerator where it's at so I can fit a 5gal bucket under if I'd had to break the line open there at the 4in bayonet port in the macerator.

What part of this is hard to understand? Residential sewage systems don't use any sort of grinder. An RV does, because the pipes are narrow, since the whole system is installed in a vehicle. Fuck.
