Looking to perform a relatively minor cosmetic surgery (non-invasive) at home with the help of a friend. How could I do this while being as sterile as possible, what would I need, etc.? I'm particularly interested in knowing how I could turn a normal scalpel into a cauterizing one (they usually used at around 230° C I think). Thanks.

I'll preface this with both IANAD and the fact that self-surgery is usually incredibly stupid.

1. Sanitize everything, flame then 90% rubbing alcohol. Use paper towels that don't shed dust.
2. You're not going to find a safe way of converting a scalpel into a cauterizing scalpel.
3. You're going to risk infection even if you do cauterize the wound, keeping it clean is of utmost importance. Use soap and water to clean it, cover with neosporin and bandages. Avoid hydrogen peroxide as that damages tissues and doesn't sterilize as well as modern soaps.
