1658015 No.1658015 [Reply] [Original]

My monitor's powerbrick is giving up after many years and I'm looking for a replacement. This should be compatible since it's the same part number but there's something I don't understand.

My original powerbrick's label:

input: 100-240v 50/60hz 1.0 A max
output: 19v 1.7A

And the replacement is pic related.
The output checks out but the input in the replacement is 0.9A and not 1.0A. What does this mean? Will it work? Where I can learn to read these things and know what they mean?

It just means it is more efficient than the old one. Output current is all that matters here, you need 19V and 1.7A, and this can give you that.

if it is drawing " less current " to produced the same output :
that means you stupid fuck , that is has less Ohms and thereby LESS impedance which means that it has overcome the resistive force of the coils that make up the transformer it has a better " efficiency curve" when it gets warm.

it won't matter. My monitor wants 4.6 volts or something retarded and I got a 5 volt adapter. Works fine.

the adaptor could be 15amps it doesn't matter. It will only take 1 amp and the rest will fly off into space. Fuck you guys are retarded.

Amps means "how fast" the electricity goes, you could plug a phone into a 5 amp charger, the amps just tell the phone how fast to charge it. Most adaptors aren't going to fry something if the volts and amps are with 1.0 of each other.

When it comes to appliances, voltage is all the matters. Too many amps doesn't matter as the appliance will only draw how many amps it wants. Your cellphone uses 1.5 amps, but you can plug it into something that has 100 amps, it doesn't matter because it will only draw 1 amp and send the rest of the amps back. Confirmed smart retards.

also here is the literal definition of an amp.

>Amp – an ampere is the unit for measuring electricity. The accepted standard unit used for measuring how fast an electric current flows is an example of an ampere.

The difference between voltage and amps. Voltage is volume, amps is speed. I can't believe you don't know this, it's very basic. Thats why you can plug a usb port straight into the wall. The wall has 20 amps, the usb port has a resistor in it that only allows 3-5 volts, and IT DRAWS 1-3 amps, where do the rest of the amps go? Back into the wall. The usb charging isn't drawing voltage, the wall is pushing the voltage into the device and the device blocks the extra volts, it's not blocking the extra amps, it's just taking the volts it wants at the amp speed. Volume vs speed. DURPY DURPPY DURR.

tl;dr if op needs a new power supply for his monitor and it has the same voltage that's literally all that matters, and it doesn't even need to be the same because appliances compensate for power surges to a degree.

So he need 5 volts and 1.5 amps, but his charger is 6 volts and 3.0 amps, it won't matter because the device will only draw 1.5 amps, the amps don't push through things, the voltage does.

>The usb charging isn't drawing voltage, the wall is pushing the voltage into the device and the device blocks the extra volts, it's not blocking the extra amps, it's just taking the volts it wants at the amp speed. Volume vs speed.

The charger doesn't block fuck all it transforms first. Then it draws according to impedence or resistance of the switching circuit and the load. Amps are not speed. It's how much charge per second, or charge rate. Not how many fucking miles it can go over time you stupid twit. Voltage is energy per unit of charge. May as well make that your "speed" cause your too dumb to wiki.

Citation:
The International System of Units defines the ampere in terms of other base units by measuring the electromagnetic force between electrical conductors carrying electric current. The earlierCGS measurement systemhad two different definitions of current, one essentially the same as the SI's and the other usingelectric chargeas the base unit, with the unit of charge defined by measuring the force between two charged metal plates. The ampere was then defined as onecoulombof charge per second.[7]In SI, the unit of charge, the coulomb, is defined as the charge carried by one ampere during one second.

>the amps don't push through things, the voltage does.

Amps can push through things. It's called an inductive element. Pushes amps through airgaps if you let it.

>Amps are not speed
To be precise, they are. A=C.s, it is a unit of how many Coulombs are transfered per second. Since Coulomb is constant, the less time it takes to transfer same number of coulombs the greater the current.
But since electric current is literary flow of coulombs, it's synonymous to flowrate in liquid. Also most of the equations (apart from parts of bernoulli) can be used for electric current.
I can't belive someone can be so dense to think that current can pull. Voltage is equivalet to "pressure", it can only push

>> No.1658841

>>1658755
>A=C.s, it is a unit of how many Coulombs are transfered per second
That is not a speed. That is a rate of charge (or flow rate as you call it) . There is no distance in that expression. Electricity moves at a foot nano second approximately over cabling. Amps don't change that.

Having to size up your cabling to avoid overheating while feeding a load because of the "speed" of electricity is a retarded misnomer because people start wondering what distance has to do with it.
