Fellas, storm knocked out my A/C unit last night. After a few flash blackouts, my unit shut off and its agonizingly hot, and is only going to get hotter. Anyone know what I can do? I'll be posting pictures, if you want me to take a picture of anything specific or need to ask me any question, tell me and I'll do my best. Thanks in advance friends

Good luck getting grandma to find a capacitor on any day, let alone Sunday. It's my convenience charge or you suffer.

By the way, if you own a phone, vehicle, or anything of value, which you probably don't, you would've paid well over manufacture cost, more than my markup on capacitors.

Do you have a fan spin?

>> No.1649492

>>1649489
Obviously, don't run it for lons, since you don't want fried compressor.
Anyway, I'm not an AC specialist, but check those:
1) Make sure 220V and 24V is getting to AC
>1a) If they don't - check wiring.
2) Make sure contactor is working
>2a) If it doesn't work, change contractor
3) Does fan work and blow good?
>3a) If it doesn't spin check if it rotates freely. If it doesn't - try WD40 bearing.
>3b) If it spins freely, and doesn't blow good or start at all - check and replace capacitor.
>3c) If replacing capacitor doesn't help - replace fan motor.
4) Does compressor start?
>4a) If it doesn't start, check and replace capacitor.
5) Does it work after doing all this?
>5a) If it doesn't, call HVAC nigger, since it would require replacing compressor, or charging the system.

I assume that you have simple On-Off AC unit. Not inverter rubbish.

You still have to go out and troubleshoot, which is usually 65-100 depending on your area. Plus then going to a parts house to get the correct capacitor and install. It’s not like we are there for five seconds.

that shit is dirty as fuck. wash the fucking unit. what is below the fan is utterly irrelevant. you could have a rotting possum in the middle of the inside of your AC. so long as it's not on any tubing or wires, it don't matter
wash your fucking fins. do this shit anytime you see any dust build up on them. it takes 10 minutes and saves a ton on energy bill, life span on the system, and keeps you from dealing with very upset repair men who have to drive all the way out to your shithole house on the weekend just to hose down your fucking unit or god forbid test to see if it's utterly fucked from running under high pressure for years and years
you will not like the price of repairing a fucked unit due to not being washed. they will either make it so high you have to sell him your children, or so high he doesn't want you to buy it just fuck off from his life.

I can't imagine any company has techs out there without at least 20 different caps on their truck. I mean, what's next, running to a supply house for a 3amp fuse? for a new spade connection, or wire nut?
basic parts are usually kept on hand. if you piss off the tech, then yeah they will run to get it because

You'd be surprised how many companies put the bare minimum in parts on trucks. Why pay for something in advance when running to get it is on the customer's time. I've worked for companies both ways, ones that gives you a van completely filled with spare parts and ones that give you an empty one.

Also, there's that type of guy who always has an excuse to go to the store, and spends half the day driving around. He's the one who claims that he doesn't take a lunch break or any other break if he's paid by the hour.
