1601921 No.1601921 [Reply] [Original]

How do I get the multimeter for free with a purchase of something super cheap, like zip ties (https://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-heavy-duty-cable-ties-10-pack-66487.html)? I tried entering all the coupon codes from https://www.hfqpdb.com/best_coupon/7+FUNCTION+DIGITAL+MULTIMETER, but it says they are all invalid. I signed up for coupons on the site and made an account too.

Posting as a thread so everybody is aware of this steal.

Why do you want that thing
I have one and I barely consider it fit to check continuity.

That’s because continuity is not one of the 7 functions.

I used to keep one around to check continuity and alternators. Didn't need it to be accurate if it showed 1.5v higher with a car running. They were all good though with DC down to the tenth, and I checked resistance with my stock of resistors and it was pretty spot on. I compared them with my step dad's fluke and it was pretty close. The leads are absolute trash though.

It's a generic DT830 family multimeter, you can get one from aliexpress for under $5. It's probably the cheapest multimeter you can find, it's decent for its price. The tester probes that come with it are an absolute garbage, expect them to disintegate into dust within weeks tho, unless you apply some heat shrink tube (pic related) plus you need to do the same near banana plugs, otherwise the wires will break very quickly.

Build one. It’s so easy and I enjoy my $10 plywood work surfaces because it’s not a big deal if I send some drill bits through it or the soldering iron makes some marks or whatever chemicals fuck it up.

Seriously though for <$50 in lumber and a couple hours, you could build something so much nicer and you can size it to fit the space you have.

Really really bad, and identical to the one that Walmart sold on black friday for $75, nobody bought them and they went on clearance for
$40.

I bought one at $40 and it still isnt worth it, isnt going to last at all.

With that said, the $200 Kobalt work bench is actually pretty awesome and worth the money of you arent going to build one.

If you google continuity symbol there are a few sites including the pic you found that say that is for continuity.. however it is the symbol for diode with the added audible alarm for a continuity check... if you read the actual manual for the harbor freight meter it lists it as diode check and the meter shows no continuity symbol...
