Should I use double sided tape to put the baseboard? Silicone caulking?

Has someone tried this with some extra-strong tape like this one?

It depends on what the wall is made of. In Europe where the walls are made of stone, I'd use construction adhesive. In america where the wall would be sheetrock or OSB, most trim carpenters use a nail gun and put about 100 nails per foot to make sure that one or two find a stud.

Sure you can. We use carpet tape for baseboards at work. Commercial building with nice stained wood baseboards, most offices are reconfigured for new tenants and the tape makes it easy and allows to baseboard to be infinitely reusable. As long as both surfaces are reasonably smooth and clean it works great. Just pry it off, quick scrape and wipe with solvent and it is good to go. Saves us a good deal of money in the long run. Never splits on removal, no need to fill old nail holes or anything, some of it has been up for over a decade now without issue.

But the experienced diy guys remember that there’s a base 2x4 all around, and studs are found along nail pops, and next to outlets.

i used liquid nails for mine because I didn't want to buy a nailgun, and half of my walls are brick. worked.

also q for whoever: i asked the dude at home depot if he could cut some pieces of baseboard for me and he said no because "there's dangerous chemicals inside of it" but he directed me to a table with a rusty handsaw and said i could do it myself there. What's goin on w/ that shit

If it is preprimed or pvc or the like they are probably required to use full protection and just not worth the hassle. Big box stores have to be anal about such things, they have lots of employees looking for reason to sue or call OSHA. There is no risk unless you are working the stuff all day every day.

gotcha. I figured he was just being lazy, which i respect.

But I did have to walk 2miles home with 5 or 6 full uncut pieces. I think they were 12'. That handsaw wasnt workin

Hah, did that with a pair of 20' birch 1x12s once, that was a bitch, the 1/2" thick 4'x6' hunk of slate was probably worse though.

Not really lazy, it the same as mothers complaining that the conductor wont lift their babystroller and baby in and out of the train all day. Yeah once or twice might not hurt but hundreds of times a day with awkward lifts and a greater risk of accidents is not worth it. Same with this guy. You are probably not the first or last to ask that day and if he makes an exemption for you why shouldn't he for the next guy?
