Hi dudes haven't seen a thread dedicated to these kind of questions so here we go

I'm looking for a cordless screwdriver for my old man.
I'm looking for something that is similar to the Bosch go but with a trigger and not pressure triggered.
I've seen the "Black & Decker BDCS40BI" witch you can twist the handle so it looks like a regular screwdriver but as far as I learned B&D is not really that reliable.
Do you have any suggestions?

And when you posted it last time, I said B&D is perfectly fine for shit around the house. It’s definitely better than the Hyper Tough Wally brand stuff. Pic related looks straight without breaking the bank, otherwise get one of the 12V drill-drivers from Milwaukee or Ridgid.

Makita has a 7.2V impact driver, TD021DSE. Has 21Nm torque, and it has a normal switch. For comparison the BD has about 4.5Nm torque.

This tool is very niche.
Main purpose is to disassemble and assemble stuff, like electronics, especially on the go.
Considering its 5 nm torque, it can be used to screw tiny self-tapers in wood.
So, in general it is better to get 12V li-ion drill, it will have more power and torque. Get this screwdriver only if your drill doesn't fit in spaces, or you can't control tightening torque well.

id avoid that one if he is tech averse, the Dewalt Gyroscopic driver is a neat idea but the interface is a completely different from anything else out there and takes some getting used to.

what about just a basic screwdriver like this? its just a drill with an adjustable clutch and a 1/4" hex chuck instead of Jacobs.

The 12V tools are 3 cells, 7.4V is 2 cells. Good cells can put out a lot of current so it’s mostly dependent on the motor they put in there.

>> No.1558044

>>1558041
Well, I think they use identical cells, so from 12V you can pull more power, since voltage is higher.
I think it boils down to reduction, not motor.

The drill or the M12 screwdriver might work as long as the trigger isn’t too sensitive, assuming the ol’ guy needs an electric screwdriver for health reasons. If that’s the case, that M12 Fuel impact is probably a bad idea if the guy is trying to change the batteries in his remote with the thing.

Meh, the 3-speed switches coming on newer impacts still aren’t great if you want a slow speed and more precision. You’re still going to get the impact, the force of which isn’t totally dependent on the speed. The hammer, anvil, and spring are still the same even with less power going to the motor.

Anyway I always thought the design was to protect the fasteners, not the bits. The impact bits absorb some of the shock so you don’t snap the head off half the screws. Regular bits hold up but not the screws.

And from personal experience with the spade bit in an impact vs normal driver the normal driver is a lot easier to use with one.. the impact bounces as soon as it starts to bind and the shaking makes it bind worse

I know they exist, but the cheapo HF bits you’re referring to aren’t hex shank like that.

>>1559637
Those wouldn’t lock into an impact

>>1559641
And I like the hex shanks because I hate when bits slip in the chuck, but I don’t understand why anybody would willingly use an impact to drill holes. I guess if it’s the only thing available... that was my thinking when I got that Shockwave set with the drill bits. But it was mostly so I could grab one bit case if I needed to go help old lady down the street hang some new blinds or shelving unit. I think if I had to drill + drive with one tool, I would grab a drill over an impact.

>> No.1560335

>>1559649
You think the bit not locking is gonna stop someone from trying it? If it’s 1/4 inch hex you can shove it in an impact.. just because it falls out if you point the bit down doesn’t mean it won’t start drilling when your pressing it into wood.
