What kind of boats or perhaps homemade submersibles can you make /diy/? I presume the flatboat is the easiest type of boat to make.

some retarded taped a number of trash cans and took a viral pic, ignoring even the most basic math involved in such a project. will that kind of hull support water pressure at more than a very few feets deep?

also, why didn't he just 3D-print it?

you need no less than four hydropumps+tanks and at least some expendable ballasts. I'd also add solar panels to charge batteries when you're floating.
throw in a couple more propellers (bow side) for stabilization and maneuvering.

I guess it will be quite a problem if water floods the battery compartment. before you drown, you just get electrocuted, while the smell of your shat pants already asphyxiated you.

Thanks. It's still pretty damn small. I didn't originally build the boat to live in but life just happens that way sometimes. I'll probably buy a bigger boat in the future but moorage costs only $160/month once I splash the boat again. Pic related is what it should look pretty close to.

Looks like an old Oliver or near enough that an Oliver would do you. They lasted about 80 years, going under in 1986. The current company using the name is an importer of Asian made machines, like Jet. These old machines were overbuilt and well made. Heavy as fuck too. Sadly, parts are difficult to come by and sometimes need to be custom fabricated if you are dealing with the pre-WWII models. In rough shape they don't sell cheap. You'd be lucky to get a smaller one (their smallest model was 18 inches) in 'operating condition' for several hundred dollars. The medium-sized ones, like the one pictured, can go for several thousand in restored condition. The big ones, 38 inches, well, they are rare so you almost never see them period.

>>1554521
After some looking, I don't think it is an Oliver. This is a shipsaw. Maybe an L. Power & Co.? He did a video on buying it, moving it, and getting it running again and doesn't mention the name of the maker.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKEd3ro3Z4I

They are much rarer than you standard bandsaw and are, as you would imagine, generally only found along coasts, lakes and major rivers. Not much demand for the things in Wyoming for example.

Remember to keep your investments in it tracked, maybe you can turn a profit when you sell it and add a bit more for a proper sailboat

I made a Human Powered Submarine for an engineering competition. Meaning their is no motor, only pedals.

Sadly, it is not a pressurized boat, the pilot need to have a scuba cylinder.

The only part that was watertight was the onboard electronics for surface control and data gathering which I made.

Of course I was part of a team, but I gained enough knowledge that I would be able to do a good one by myself.

Lol well that's pointless. Except for like SAS covert ops maybe.

>> No.1558986

It can get up to 6 knots tho, and at any depth the pilot is able to go with one cylinder.

If it's not pressurised then I don't think that's true anon.

This kind of sub is actually filled up with water, meaning he can go as deep as a scuba diver can.

You can think about it as a underwater bicycle for divers.

>> No.1559291

I read it as "the pilot is able to go to any depth whatsoever whilst only using one cylinder", but you mean "the diver is able to go to normal scuba depths". It's confusing mainly because you tried to claim something that is normal without the sub as a positive that the sub allows.

I think it kinda is. For a relatively low cost DIY sub, being able to go 160' deep while still being safe-ish is alright.

You don't have to deal with very high pressure increasing your risk of death, even at very shallow depth (at just 12' you get 2 atm).

A pressurized vessel would need a lot more money and people with experience in this domain to make something safe, unless you don't care about safety kek

That's like saying a bike is useless because you cant fly with it. You're still going faster than normal.
