I didnt own jackstands, the only reason I was using the crappy scissor jacks was because the old cheap hydraulic jack we had been using had a failing cylinder which would bring the car down after like 10 minutes.

the steel fingers on the jack crumpled, and the jack kinda got wedged in the sway bar somehow so it didn't crash down. it surely would have fucked up the rotor and god knows what else if it did. I got a log out of the woods, wedged it under the axle to keep it from falling worse, and begged a hydraulic jack from somebody.
lesson fucking learned, now I carry a little hydraulic jack and two jackstands in the car.

Happened to a friend of a friend. He was working at Port Mellon. His friend was up on top of a transformer you're a mean bus looking around with his Maglite. He dropped the damn thing and a connected to hot ends to the return and immediately connected 10000 amps across his Maglite when it touch the two. The amount of power going through the flashlight instantly vaporized it and exploded into a hot cloud of superheated metal gas and burned him over 65% of his body. Another accident that happened in a pulp Mill that he got lecture on, because he was a fireman on duty, was a heat exchanger they're doing welding on caught fire and they tried to put it out with water. The thing was made up of welded titanium and they were trying to put out a titanium fire with water. This did not go very well. If you guys ever seen a magnesium fire? This is almost as bad. You need to sand or something

Investigating a grinding noise from my Toyota offside wheel, scissor jack, wheel off to look at the bearing and disc.

My head is in between the disc and the wheel arch when the jack pushes through the corroded jack point. The disc is touching one side of my neck, the arch the other.

Extricate myself just as the front bumper sill bends and the car falls off the tyre I had fortuously placed on its side under the front of the car.

Went inside for a cup of tea and still shaking an hour later. Literally millimetres from being decapitated.

i did something like this about 8 years ago
