The mechanics are useless and sometimes the mirrors will come loose on my truck and dudes are nowhere to be found (if I’m still in the yard) and I always feel shitty going into their toolbox. So half the time I gotta go back through the building to the front lot, drive around the block, come back into the yard gate and dig tools out of my car. Parallel wrenches don't have to cost a fortune, and you don't have to buy Knipex at all. While I have no doubt that they're the golden standard, you can get a good pair from 20 bucks on.

>> No.1544172

>>1544159

every time I run across the religious issue of knipex vs. traditional adjustable wrenches I'm curious about one thing: do you have to maintain some grip on the knipex handles to keep it locked at that notch? In some odd positions, an adjustable wrench would be easier to use if that is true.

At any rate the speed with which knipex changes settings is clearly a plus, as is the ease with which you can put it on a fastener and quickly snug it up. Adjustable wrenches seem to either be a bit too tight or a bit too loose, which is why I only use mine as a last resort.

No. See those notches in the adjustment slide? the button has a notched part that locks into those when the button is released. You do need to hold a grip on the handles to maintain a vise-grip-like lock on the object being gripped. Unless you're turning a nut, in which case you only need to press on one handle.

I have only used them a little bit, but I was suprised. They don’t fuck a nut like channellocks or vise grips, but they feel so much more well planted than a regular adjustable. Honestly I felt like I could put more torque on them than I could do on a regular open ended wrench without fear of it slipping off, and that was with fairly light pressure gripping the handles together.

I only got them after a normie friend saw my Alligators and told me the Pliers Wrench is his favorite tool.

That’s what I thought too, but they’re great for gripping and cutting. Almost like an all around demo pliers. I ran into a situation like this >>1544195 recently and they were the best thing I had to grip the smooth bolt without having to grind a slot into it. Between the pivot joint and the waffle pattern on the jaws, plus the powerful cutters, they work well for a lot of random shit.

The big Channellock crimper and cutter pliers are another one I got fairly recently that come in handy for more than one use. I rarely even reach for the diagonal cutters anymore.

because chrome plating does not hold up very well on the tip of a screw driver so they end it before the tip, also machining a screwdriver tip and then plating it and having it end up at exactly the right specs is tough, easier to not plate it. Ahh ok. That would be quite a challenge to get a US company to switch tools over to Knipex. Even if they’re better, the cost isn’t really the limiting factor but rather the unions and muh US-made. I know the unions at General Motors factories have some contract where they will only work with US-made tools. So these big manufacturing companies (often union employees) would rather have more expensive US made tools of similar quality like Snappy or whatever, or a lower quality at the same cost like Channellock.
