tried that, it sort of works but you are better off buying some proper fuel blocks to keep with you than alcohol if you plan to cook. the can method takes about 5 or 6 attempts before it works anywhere near properly

Apart from doomsday prep or camping, what purpose would this serve?

Not poster, but if a storm knocks your power out and all your food spoils, or if there's a flood or earthquake or other non apocalyptic emergency, it could come in real handy.

Ive seen a lot of these threads, and theyre packed with great ideas....One idea I got from a buddy of mine, who goes out into the Nevada outback, and has had to spend a few nights out there waiting for someone to get him out, or a passerby to get him to a phone....

He always kept a bottle of whiskey behind the back seat....I know its not anything to do with survival, but a few stiff drinks while your stuck out in the middle of nowhere pretty much ensures a good nights sleep, and helps pass the time.....

Just figured I'd throw it out there...

Obviously drinking is the worst idea if your under threat or in a dangerous situation...

No I was asking because I had it saved when the occupy wallstreet threads were /b/ but when I went to post it here it was way too small to read. And when I think of survivalism I think SHTF scenarios.

Terrible idea. You're body will dehydrate much, much faster due to the amount of fluid it takes for the liver to process alcohol.

But that would make the water evaporate, leaving only salt.

You could, if you had a way to efficiently catch the steam. But if you were in a survival situation or had limited resources, you might want to save the fire fuel for something else.
