Other than the laser diode itself. It can have a small cheap driver circuit that provides a constant flow of current rather than voltage. This is almost all laser pointer designs.
More expensive lasers have a photodiode inside the packaging of the laser and is used to detect the light output by a dedicated laser diode driver which keeps the laser very constant in it's output intensity at varied temperatures.
