howdy faggots,
I'm hoping to replicate this helmet, and I figure'd I'll just make a resin cast of a sphere about the right size for the opaque parts of the helmet, but I wasn't sure how to go about making the clear visor. I was gonna use a plastic dome of the same diameter and cut it in half but those turned out to be really expensive. Any of y'all got ideas?
I probably did this wrong I am new to /diy/

Adam Savage just did the same thing. These dudes vacuum formed their visor using a negative buck but you can do the same with a positive one. http://youtu.be/RNAc0C8nApc

There are more videos out there to get you started with vacuum forming if you're interested.

this looks like it will work well. Do you think heating it in my oven and then forming it over a positive buck by hand will work? I greatly appreciate the response

Should work if you use your oven but there might be some off-gassing from the plastic. Don't think hand forming will work though, it'll leave imprints on the piece. If you have a shop vac, you can make a small table to use for forming. Hell a normal vacuum would work too. Not like it's a complicated shape.
