Hey guys, I live in the equivalent of half a room. My space is extremely limited, and there is a great deal of wasted space on the horizontal plane. I want to build an upper floor, since i sleep on the floor on a thick blanket, I was thinking of making a floor upstairs and sleeping up there (I weigh 55kg but I might have others over so I'm not sure if its a good idea to depend on boards up there).

Here are my ideas

1. Get a sleeping bag instead of sleeping on huge blanket if I choose to sleep on the ground now.

2. Build an upper, use it to store my clothing and whatnot or sleep in it.

3. Add smart controls to the lights (with motion detection and/or wifi with esp8266)

I've tried to make my room more efficient but there is only so much room I can use, so the vertical space is something I want to use.

Got any ideas and suggestions /diy/? I've looked at some small houses and hong kong style 1 room places as well, but I'd like good material ideas (I don't mind looking in the trash, after all I live in a 3rd world sized room) and ideas for using the space most efficiently. Thanks!

Post pics. I'm having trouble imagining what your place looks like.

You could build a second floor but light would be poor on the ground floor.

I recommend changing lights to spotlights if you're halving your room height.

Also chose light colours to do your room. White ceiling, probably magnolia walls. You can add colour with furniture.

What are the dimensions?

Hey guys I am trying to take a picture but I can't take a good angle and its a bit of a mess. I would say its about 8x8x8, and I have a a window that is decently tall, so the light won't be too much of a problem.

I like the idea of the loft bed, How much are they? Would it be a better idea to make my own from scrap like pallets and industrial refuse? I was out and I saw an abandoned transformer's cooling tubes and was thinking of using them to provide strength.

Thanks for dimensions. That's not a whole lot of floorspace. Building up is definitely the way to go. Storage solutions are going to be primarily reliant on how willing you're willing to use every cubic foot you can spare.

>loft bed
Bed frames are basically worthless on the used market so you could probably get one for cheap. Loft bed frames can be had for $50 in my area if I don't feel like haggling.

>should I build my own
If you want to, but it'll cost you more than it's worth. Don't use pallets though. You'll start to feel unwell after a while since the preservatives do seep out.

thank you anon. they're around $100 and it's easier to do that than build it myself. it's a lot cheaper than i thought.

sorry it was 8ft for the anon that asked.

No problem. Just remember for small spaces, someone else has already made something to work for you. It's all a matter of what you want out of a room and where you want to spend your money.

Since housing expense is stupid these days, people that rent rooms are doing their best to make their room feel like a house instead of a glorified dorm room.

i moved back with my dad. my room is half a room, the adjacent room was a pantry that was converted to another room.

my father is a hoarder. he wouldn't throw away my old bed. in fact he even keeps his old bed (30+ years) next to his bed since he won't throw it away. any idea to trick him?

since i broke up with my ex, i was on tinder fucking (mostly fat) girls on the floor, but it's a terrible way to live to just stick my dick into girls and think i'm not an "incel".

any ideas to make the top part compatible with a blanket or "sleeping on the floor"? i have some wood, is that all i need?

thank you everyone. i appreciate your time and ideas.
