Looking for the cheapest alternative to replace the carpet in my car. I'm not looking for a expensive material or anything, just something that resembles a carpet to cover up the floor.

The old carpet is almost destroyed and is in terrible shape, previous owner left too much shit to not even make it worthwhile cleaning the carpet but just replacing it.

What are your suggestions?

Industrial felt liner. Available in varying lengths on a roll. One side often has a "melted plastic" feel and look. That side can be spraypainted. Gets the job done, easy to cut, endurance 10/10, 30$ per roll here.

I saw this on /o/ as well, so what's your budget ? Auto carpet is usually moulded and a roll might not take shape well. I'd also be concerned about overlaps and not just for aesthetic reasons. Carpet kits can be bought fairly cheaply and would be worth it if the car is otherwise not a total wreck.

Fuck the carpet. Go vinyl. You'll thank me later.

Try sourcing a replacement from a salvage yard. Check their sites to scan the inventory. Might get lucky and score the same color code. Anything else will look like dog shit. Material made from plasticky or vinyly or rubbery stuff might become pliable with a little help from the heat gun?

girls like to walk on carpet. girls do not like to walk on vinyl, except maybe in the kitchen and bathroom, and even then they prefer tile.

by vinyl they probably mean leatherette. this is sold as a luxury option so bitches are ok with luxury. that said, you will need proper auto upholstery grade stuff or it will wear through quickly. for the floors a hard wearing rubber mat is ok. bitches are ok with something stylish. they just want a pretty interference pattern.

it's not moulded. it's just several layers of plastic. butyl its flexible but fairly stiff especially with age. I've had to run wires for a fair number of car stereos and never found moulded carpet.

You sure? I've pulled the carpet from 3 cars and the bottom is always a thick layer of rubber that I can't imagine being anything other than moulded, even taking age into account
Carpet kits are pre-formed to fit the floor as well.a

budget is the cheapest as possible.
bought the car for less than $300 and just want it to make a decent daily. interior is a damn mess that maybe cleaning it may not even be worth it.

If I can't find a alternative then I'll have to pull the old carpet and try to clean it..

If you do clean it, I've had luck cleaning some nasty old carpets by pressure washing, spraying it with foaming carpet cleaner, scrubbing, pressure washing again, then vacuuming it dry and shampooing.

I also just sprayed some rattlecan bedliner in my beater truck for about $30.

Auto carpets are only custom and can't be redone from a roll. They're impossible to clean. They absorb everything. Basic models have vinyl floor which can be covered with "carpet mats" which can be powerwashed. First week I had my truck i dropped a whole cup of coffee. Weeping channels dropped most of the fluid on the ground because of the vinyl. 4 bolts, lifted the seats, mopped, reinstalled seats, life was good. Try that with a carpet. You cant. Instead you're stuck with shampooing and even that don't guarantee a good clean. Old lady spilled some fruit juice 3 years ago into her car. Many shampoos, steaming and scrubs later it still smells of rotten vinegar because it gets caught under the top layer into the underlay. Only solution was ripping it out, power washing both sides and reinstall after drying. Huge mess and never went in the same way again. Carpets in cars are insane.

While I was trying to clean it with a brush so the dirt loosens I noticed a lot of the thread is coming out of the carpet, let's just hope all that work pays off before the carpet shits on its self

I used to work at a Mercedes dealership that bought wrecked cars, rebuilt them, and sold them with a clean carfax report. A lot of the cars were totaled in accidents, and had blood all over the interior. If you saw it you'd probably think it needed to be replaced, but we had a auto detail guy who could clean anything, and he always swore up and down that "wisk" detergent was best for getting blood out of carpet.

Then wat are we even doing here? Toss a dozen air fresheners in there and be done with it.

Not sure why replied to my post, but coffee is one of the easier things to remove from mats.
>some fruit juice
That little old lady was lying and putting the same pieces back into a car is nothing more than time-consuming. Goes in just the same as before for any competent installer.
>>1447622
This. Works for more than just blood. Picrelated is a dogsend for grease and oil spots on carpet and upholstery. Regular household ammonia works, too.

Super retarded. You bougt a super cheap car that will break down whithin a month or two and you want to repair a visual aspect. What a waste. Get your priorities straight.

never tried using laundry detergent to clean car carpet. i would just remove the seats and scrub in some water and oxyclean, then pull it out with a wetdry (shopvac).
