I have 3 VGA cables I'm not using and I'd like to turn them into one really long cable that I can use.

How would I go about doing this?

Take the connectors off, and solder the corresponding wires together.

Picture quality will probably be horrible.

It is a good idea to add some heatshrink(BEFORE SOLDERING) too.

would support you soldering each wire together, except that some might have less pins then others depending on what you got them for, you're quality will nearly instantly drop and it'll be a major hassle.

These are a dollar.

That was my first thought. Except no store around here sells them.

This is a good plan: >>141502
..but that being said, it's not a very good plan if it's analog VGA. The longer the cables, the more capacitance loading each signal down, and the lower the quality of the image on the monitor. What you can expect to see when you do this, is smearing of images, and even "echoes" of images.

If you don't need them today, just pick them up online, that's all I did with mine, got here in like 2 days. I never buy anything from stores anymore, cut the middle man cut the cost. Even if you happened to find one at a Best Buy or something they would probably be near 20. Patience.

If not, get your soldering kit out.

yes, it's not DYI, but you'll probably fuck it up if you try to do it yourself

And I thought you need some sort of signal amplifier for long cables?

Fucking buyfags.

>> No.141573

yeah you can do that.

Just be aware that VGA is analog, and you're likely to see some decline in picture quality if the run is too long. You can improve the situation by reducing the refresh rate or resolution.

A restaurant I used to manage was set up with several station monitors running on hundred foot runs of VGA cables, all running to a central machine crammed full of PCI video cards on the other side of the building. Picture quality was fine, but they were only running at 640x480/60hz.

Step 1. Acuire tiny copper tubing
Step 2. Cut said tubing to 2x length of pins
Step 3. Connect VGA cables end to end
Step 4. Duct tape the shit out of that motherfucker
Step 5. ???
Step 6.PROFIT

it won't work pins don't match

>> No.141980

This is correct. you'd need to wire them up or have two female jacks to plug them into that were wired properly pin-2-pin.

>>141980

How would it not? The pins connect to the same pin on the adjacent cable, the pin #'s match perfectly. And even if what you are saying is correct, attaching 3 cables in tandem would overcome this issue by swapping pins till the original pins are used again.

>> No.142013

some cables don't even have all the pins connected
even if they are the main 3 wires are coaxial and
this way the image would be even worse

Quite So.
I stand corrected, Thanks for the knowledge, anon.
