I have a busted old computer chair like pic related, the back rest falls of sometimes and it doesn't ascend and descend well anymore, sometimes it ascends on its own when getting up, is there a way to turn this into a extremely comfy costomized chair or should I just shell out £50 for a proper chair?

If the latter should I ask advice for chair reccomendations?

You can replace the shock or whatever it is called. As for the back, probably, but by that point you will be getting close to the cost of a shitty office chair.

As for p[aying 50 for a chair, man that has got to be a terrible fucking chair. When I went looking about 5 years ago there wasn't a single chair I could find anywhere that cost less than $200 (about 140 Pounds) that wasn't complete crap. If you spend any significant amount of time in this chair spend some real money on it. Spend your money where your spend your time.

If you get a new chair, and you have the extra room, keep this one and remove the backrest. Now your old chair is an ottoman.

You have to pay attention when you move it but, for everyday use where you chair doesn't move a lot, it is not a problem
