Get some sheet metal sheets from home cheapo or lowes, they have quite a variety. Get snips (yellow for straight, green and red for cutting out circles). Get a Sharpie marker to make lines in the sheet metal prior to cutting. Get a hole puncher for sheet metal for vent holes and the like. Finally get an hvac metal folding tool, you can probably get away with hand seamers but it can be tricky for your individual bends to line up cleanly. You can secure up all the metal panels you make with sheet metal screws.

So the basis for every computer is the motherboard.

Motherboards come in standard sizes.

Research which size you want to make for.

Figure out all the other shit you need like PSU, GFX, CPU cooling, LEDs, dildoes and other faggy shit I know you're going to put inside of it.

Once you know the volume of space and you have the motherboard footprint you can look for suitable sheetmetal or alternative construction materials.

You could probably laser cut some carbon fiber, or wood and glue one together for a prototype or a final design for your shitty maker-cred.

Then neck yourself.

Find all the components you want to use and model them up in whatever CAD software you choose, create the chassis based on the dimensions of the parts. Insert them all into an assembly making sure it all fits then cut holes for sheet metal insets in the chassis using the holes in the parts as your reference points. Some tips: make as few bends as possible as you will have no bend allowance if you use free software, make holes at least 4 material thicknesses from edges and bends, dimension you drawings using outside dimensions, 1.5mm mild steel would be fine, name and structure your files properly so that it all makes sense, the people that are manufacturing things are stupid, make your drawing stupid proof.

you can find dimensions for IO shield on internet or measure them by yourself, take material that you are comftorable working with since it doesnt really matter that much if you have good airflow (thin mdf, aluminium sheet, acrylic but just be carefull if material is conductive to not short anything)

Decide on why you want to do it first of all.
Building your own case is pretty stupid unless you have a unique requirement.
>Wall mounted
Looks cool but dust will infest your components, its basically just strapping a test bench to your wall.
>Desk PC
Rad af but pain to move, obviously
>Miniature form factor
Worth your time, itx PC's are over priced and most are shit
>Extreme cooling
See above
>Complete silence
Probably the easiest and best case project imo

You get the idea, just building a normal case won't feel satisfying as its going to be infinitely shittier than the off the shelf equivalents. So try to do something unique with it that you wouldn't get anywhere else.

And that shit fucking sucked, and an immeasurable amount of work went into trying to wrangle the drawings instead of doing the work.

This isn't about "being too stupid to design a box without software." It's about clicking some buttons, exporting DXF files (or whatever the local shop takes), and finishing the job in less than an hour beginning to end, instead of masturbating over having done it in the most roundabout way possible.
