I wish there was a detent in the middle to center the driver when you're working at an angle. That's why it's nearly impossible to drive them consistently with a power tool.

Robertson drive or Torx are best. Ease of manufacture hardly matters these days. Use a pick as a pick and a screwdriver as a screwdriver.

The secret all along was to use the correct size screwdriver. You grab whatever straight screwdriver because it looks mostly right.

Naw dawg. That shot should be tight and filly seated and self retaining. That is a fucking screw. And you can do it with a straight slot. I ground custom bits for my gun screws and it's amazing the torque I can get out of them without marring the surface.

They're not designed for that. You're supposed to hand-screw them. You don't want to use power tools on shit you'd use flatheads in anyway, and only a moron would use flatheads to install drywall.

The slot does not turn into a circle when the first half a mm disintegrates into red dust though.

>>1310741
>I've had torx bits break before but have never stripped a torx screw

I've stripped torx screws. Kobalt screws (that come with their track mount and other wall storage, dunno about the ones sold by themselves) feel like they're made of pot metal. The torx screws that mount brake rotors on china-made bicycles also strip easy.

---
Hex socket is superior. The shittiest alan keys are better than the shittiest of any other type because it's just a fucking bent hex bar, and the best of them work at odd angles. Shitty fasteners rarely strip because there's no weak points. Good ones of both are super durable. Robertson would be a second if it were anything more than canuck tears. Hex head is shit because you have to use a completely different tool, so the only real use is when the fastener requires fuckloads of torquing down or you want the piece to look like it was made by orcs. The only points to torx or any other security bit is to lock out normies from exploring and becoming /diy/ and to sell driver bits. Philips, pozidriv, JIS, etc are for tiny electronics at best, and at worst are outdated meme screws whose purpose is to make it hard to fuck up production with a staff that consists of soul-dead day laborers with no respect for the product or work.

Flathead is for furniture, antiques, weapons, hand tools, and requiring the simplest driver ever to manufacture.

I'm having a problem with my 2009 Mac Pro computer. It's hard to know what the source of the issue is but I believe the power unit is dead. The trouble is I can't get it out of the aluminum processor cage because one of the screws is stripped. I need to remove the stripped screw to get in there to check the condition of the PSU.

I've tried some basic methods. Using a rubber band to grant some additional leverage. Hammering in a larger sized allen key in an attempt to create a new impression. The hole is completely hollow, no purchase whatsoever.

Do you have any suggestions to help?

Welding an allen key to the screw is out of the question as there are delicate components inside. I tried epoxy glue. It didn't work. Among the last solutions I can think of are drilling and cutting a notch with a dremel to twist with a flat head screwdriver.

where did this clown come from?

adjusting rocker arm clearance is routine maintenance on some engines.
throttle body rebuild this week had a dozen Torx bolts
that vans dash parts steering column and steering wheel was almost all torx bolts
lots of torx in auto stuff going out and back in daily

and why do we bother responding to things like this?

seconded. I use these at work for mounting electronics to aluminium plates, so a complete assembly can be mounted in already working condition. They're a huge time saver, especially since there's no pre-drilling required.

You can't afford to bomb your corporate masters and resettle the Indian sub-continent at once, and the noble Leaves are focused on the good of humanity (dusky versions only).

I'll use whatever for larger fasteners but prefer hardened, quality tips on the small sort because working on notebooks. Cheap tips are fine for one or a few jobs though, and you can buy kits with those, spudgers etc for working on lappies and phones.

Buy a cheap set then if you have wear issues replace the worn shit with better quality.

>>1317213
is completely correct. BTW noobs beware because Torx and Torx Plus are different. Ford is fond of Plus for things like bed bolts where the typical button head won't damage cargo because smooth while offering convenient removal.

Not true. When they are old and rusty they strip but it is harder to do. More often then not you’ll just snap the head off which is extremely common since that’s the weak spot on those

2bh i did "sea survival" and part of it was a cursory guide on how to poop out of a life raft while not either freezing your butt or pooping on the raft, there are special handles for it and everything

the key is to not get water on your butt, cold air is cold but not THAT cold but a wet butt will get cold faster than a dry butt, air doesnt transfer tons of heat particularly well but water will instantly destroy you
