Is it safe to run a Coleman lantern indoors?

I ran it for a few hours inside the house and the quality of light and heat produced was outstanding. Plus I have three 20gal tanks that are just begging to be used in this cold ass weather.

The packaging says not to due to CO/fire/small children etc risk but I’m thinking that’s just liability bullshit because these things burned fuel very efficiently without any odor from what I can tell. Thoughts?

>> No.1308819

CO is completely odorless you fucking idiot. Enjoy gassing yourself.

A clean, complete, odorless burn produces minimal CO you simpleton

Why are you asking, if you think you know the answer already?

>> No.1308826

They're almost as good as candles WRT starting fires. Maybe kerosene lamps are worse. Good question why you're running an outdoor camping lantern indoors instead of running an indoor kero lamp indoors.

Also burnt propane fumes are smellier than burnt deodorized lamp oil.

>> No.1308827

As long you have a safe place where you have no fire risk then there's no problem. It won't produce in any way enough CO in a house to affect you.

we had gas lighting and a gas catalytic fire in our caravan for about thirty years, no troubles. but we had fixed, unclosable air vents in the floor and roof, i think that's pretty important.

OP you need to ask yourself a few things here

1) do you have a good CO detector? (perhaps built in with the smoke detector)

2) do you trust your CO detector?

they do produce CO but I can't answer if it is worse than a gas stove or other lamps as others have said. The risk of fire on the other hand is very real, I had one of these fail on me at a camp site last year and the fire quickly grew to a few feet radius.I did get it out before it spread to my tent but I had to smother it out with my towel and most of my drinking water.

good luck OP and try not to an hero or burn your shit down

My oven is liquid propane
I don’t die when I cook dinner
I have a hood over the range that is vented to the outside, but I don’t use it.
I have C02 detectors, they don’t go off when I bake a cake.
OP if you have working CO2 detectors, then burn the light.

OP here, I have CO detectors and they are only 3 years old.

None went off yesterday, none have gone off today. I've been burning a lantern in my battlestation for about two hours now.

I run a gas heater inside. Some ventilation is required. I never sleep with it on or run it in the room I sleep in.

If this lamp does catch fire do not expect insurance cover.

This is /diy/ you fucking consumer sheep.

Distill your own fucking alcohol from your fucking homemade fermented wash.

Design a lamp-like contraption that will use alcohol as fuel

Paint it yellow, add a shot of black to the yellow.

Use it as the only light source for your shipping container and as means to cook imitation crabmeat and deep frying homemade doughnuts.

Fucking done, /diy/ style, now you're a true american hero, YEEHAW.

You need lots of ventilation. I had several cousins who died in their camper because they went to sleep with a Coleman lantern on. It was cold so they had the camper shut up air tight. They were between the ages of 8 and 21.

He doesn't need lots of ventilation. Just don't be in a small air tight room with a strong fire.

The camper was as large as a large bedroom. "Airtight" just means the door and windows were closed. "Lots of ventilation" means the windows would be open. I'm not sure why you are getting so angry.

These Mr. Heater propane heaters are advertised as indoor safe. They even advocate on the packaging that they can be used in small tents with no ill effect.

In what way does this burn propane such that they don't generate CO?

You might take a good look at the package the lamp mantles come in. It says to burn off new mantles outside. Something about thorium...
