And what will happen if I plug them into the socket. I got them for free but I don't know what they can be used for.

Hold onto one and run over 88 mph and you'll go back to the 50s.

They are transformers. Look for numbers on the box

>> No.1308427

Take an ohm reading on the black and orange wires. Make sure the number isn't zero. At least, then the coil isn't shorted.

Plug it in and measure AC voltage on the other wires coming out of the box. This will tell you how much it is changing the voltage.

It is probably going to convert 120-240 AC to 24-48 AC. What can you use it for? If you had relays lying around all kinds of things.

>> No.1308429

Oh my God you twats.

Op they are home made transformers that utilize microwave oven transformers to produce high amperage.
They probably produce 600a at like 0.5v AC.

What can it do.

That is bullshit. Those little wires wouldn't be able to support loading on even the line side of the transformer like that. Get out of here.

give them back, Tyrone

120v at 5a is 1200a at 0.5v. Take into account loss and duty cycle and 600amps is about right.

Melt shit. Put a coin in between the leads and blug it in.

unlikely, but you'll probably find a way

No.
You will probably burn yourself.

A bit of a pro tip, watch the plastic box, and when it starts to cloud up with smoke, stop and let the transformer cool.
The box is actually bad for cooling, but it makes it much safer to use, so ehh.

Maybe in burgerland, but in the land of 240VAC we can use such thin wires with no danger of overheating. They'll take at least 8-10A, since microwave transformers are meant to pull that regardless.

Also tell me how I can get more current out of my setup, I made a shitty spot-welder out if it with some solid chunks of copper but it won't melt tin-can steel together.

My first thought also.

This. Obviously, make sure you're not plugging the secondary side into the socket.

yes, get used to it.

Those are DIY Spot Welders made from MOTs.

>>1308434
I made a few, they work quite well. Mine are 400A to 1200A. I prefer the double MOT so the voltage is twice as much and it can burn through dirty work surfaces a little easier.

>>1308429
The voltage is probably 1.5V. I've never been able to get one below that with 110V-124V main. Most of mine are 1.8xV for a single MOT, using 1 turn of wire like in the OP's setups.

Not with that type of power supply. You can hold both leads when it is on and the voltage is so low you don't get shocked. Like the other anon said, you're far more likely getting burned by touching something you just heated up with it. Just don't open the boxes and touch anything while it is turned on and you'll be fine.

Modified microwave transformers.

If you have to ask what they are on the internet you should probably not mess with them. And if you really want to mess with them, get a electrician friend over.

You have no use for them since you dont know what they do and that you dont even know what they are.
