I think if you're going to do cams it's best to do POE. One wire, no siamese cable.

Get some shipping containers in front of your house. It would secure your property by making criminals believe you're some crazy freak not worth messing around with.

did the other camera thread drop off the catalog already? i've been sporting a big ole hardon for a huge Synology NAS for a while now, but ain't sure if it'd even be fast enough for multiple use shit like serving video at 4K, etc.

whatever you do, no matter what they say, DONT INTO WIRELESS!

I got a POE system, 4 cams, 8 port dvr, from reo link. it's good so far and I can add more cameras. running the cables will be a pain, but POE is the way to go and I can always reuse the cable runs if I get new cameras.

I didn't put a lot into my camera system and for the past 2 years It's performed flawlessly.

I bought a cheap Chinese 8 channel DVR with indoor/outdoor 720p cameras and a 1tb HDD.

All modern camera systems sold on amazon/ebay right now have free apps for your phone so you can zoom in/take pics/monitor in real time or from hours before, even set certain cameras to alert you if there is movement in a certain part of the screen and even a free cloud.

Total invested was 360 dollars.

Also make sure you store your HDD in a secure place, I drilled 4 holes in the back of an extra gun safe I have and fished the wires though and secured the safe to 2 studs in my basement and then covered it with a blanket and a spare set of table and chairs.

The best security system in the world won't help if your HDD is missing.

If you can't change a few LEDs on a camera you probably shouldn't even be using electronics.

My 12yo knows how to solder, It doesn't take a rocket scientist or any type of special schooling lol

This. Don't fall for the wifi meme. The cameras have to be plugged in anyways, might as well run video on that cable too.

You'll want an IP cam (or several) for this. I have a couple 4mp Hikvision domes i've been happy with. Real good quality, with a bunch of features.

The cameras I have can save locally to a microSD card, if you don't want to dick around with an NVR or putting a server together. Motion-detection, schedule recording, all built-in.
Can also save to network disks (FTP or SMB). Or use RTSP to stream it to something.

>red litt ir leds
Yes, the IR LEDs will emit some red in the visible spectrum, but unless you're looking for it, you're not going to see it.
If you've got enough light in the area you're monitoring, you don't even need the IR illuminator. That'll eliminate a lot of false motion alarms from dust/insects in front of the camera lens.

>be me
>out of town on business trip
>motion alarm, garage
>another one
>check phone notifications
>what the fuck, the door's open and there's people in there
>other unit in the complex was for sale, looks like the realtor and new owners looking at their water shutoff in my garage closet (fucked up layout in the building)
>watch lady take a tour of my garage
>dude looked up at the ceiling, I think he saw the blue light on my wifi access point
>never saw any of them look at the camera

>VPN home from the hotel later that night
>download and review the videos

>few weeks later, lady stops by to introduce herself, mentions she was in there looking at the water shutoff
>"I know."
>"looks like you've got some fun toys"
>"Yup."

Kind of want to install VoIP phones in the garage/house, maybe an intercom at the front door too. Which would also be really easy to do with structured cabling in place like I have.

Yeah. It's why I put a camera in the garage. Previous owner was pretty good about ringing the doorbell and letting me know he was going to be in my garage. I don't think he ever knew I had a camera in there... never told him.

Porch-cam is nice for deliveries, especially since I travel a lot. I can text a neighbor/friend to pick things up if I get something and i'm out of town for a week.

Also for retarded chinese food delivery drivers. >webm related

If you haven't read any rela philosophy in your life, you should stop forming opinions about things.

My wife's son is currently studying neo-hegelian postmodern hermeneutics.

Camera are retarded and have no use, get fake sirens and hide the real ones, get a microwave detector (I guess it is called like that) to activate the siren. Get a gun and if someone comes in stay in your room aim for the door, and wait for the thief. Best you can do for low budget. Only take things with a good brand,
