Could someone explain how this could be a compressor circuit?

I understand that it is a led or infra red led and a photodiode but... How could it be a compressor effect ? Is it using the diode effect ? (everything under 0.6v don't pass, i don't know the english for it)

I don't know about that exact design, but usually they're something like pic related. The LED(s) light up based on the output volume, which in turn makes the LDR more conductive, reducing gain. Doing so it kinda-sorta regulates the output level.

That's actually an interesting circuit

See, TL072 is a dual op-amp

The output of one of them is just the output for the effects unit, but it also controls the inverting input of the second op-amp which in turns makes the green leds glow, and the leds change the resistivity of an LDR in the feedback loop for the first OP-AMP, which in turn changes its gain

Real fucking clever if you think about it

An amplifier circuit has a certain gain

I'm not sure if all compressors work like this, but the circuit that anon posted works by using a second amplifier to control the gain of the first. The higher the output of the first amplifier, the lower the second one will set the first's gain to.

Don't know about MOSFETs but using a JFET (as in your pic) is common. A JFET is normally ON and is controlled with a negative gate voltage while a MOSFET is normally OFF and could be used as parallel resistor in a divider that gets activated with a positive gate voltage.

He's right. Check how the gain of a non-inverting (or inverting for >>1278036) amp is calculated.
The normal LDRs have maximum sensitivity for green, so green LEDs would minimize power consumption.
