I wish I had a pic, and I wish this thread would take off.

I need to organize my garage. I have lots of bigger equipment like table saws, miter saws, compressor, tile saw, etc. In a single car garage. I would really like to see some creative ideas for storage.

I plan to permanently mount the compressor up high with a drop down hose, then some drop down outlets.

I'm also planning to do a tool wall, I have 1 plaster wall and 1 contrete block wall to work with. Pics would be great.

My job is basically forcing this upon people.

Everything has its place, it's either labeled or you know it well. If it gets out of its place, put it back when it's done. Sockets, wrenches, every screwdriver, everything has a place. Doesn't matter where but a good place is best (drawer, etc). Sweep very time you use anything g, doesn't have to be the whole place, just don't make a mess and ignore it. You can't have enough drawers ever. Ever. Mount things to the wall if there's space. My garage doesn't have enough wall space to pit a lewd poster up anymore, even though I want to. Build lots of little tables, one to put the air compressor under, that's free storage space right there

I’m making progress. I always feel like I’m working under a time crunch and do whatever I’m doing until the last minute. Nothing gets put away and junk stacks up. I’m going to be build drawers and shelves this week.

Can never have too many shelves.

Throwing up some 3/4" plywood in 8' ceiling and screw container lids to it. Look up, find jar, unscrew and use.

Pile of shit and white shelves in same spot in both pics. Been a giant pain in the dick...

Fuck that. Build a sealed doghouse with a heat lamp in it 50 feet from your shop. Run pipe underground to the shop.

Get that loud mutherfucker out of your life.

Mount 2x4 to that block wall and hang plywood or pegboard.

I'm about to build custom shelves that can hold everything I need for a home improvement business in an old camper van. I'm removing part of the back two seats and leaving the parts that give me some storage and building the shelves around them. I'm not sure if I'll have room for everything or not, we'll see. Hopefully I can get things labeled and keep them in some order.

Tips:

Wire shelves from costco are cheap and the long milk crates (3) fit on them. I use this for big things, probably 60 of them across 5 wire rack shelves.

Put your compressor in a different building so its not so loud.

etc

Jars (they still make those right?)
Take lid off, use screws to fasten under shelves
(of which you can never have too many)
>>1277564
Fill jars with nuts/bolts/nails/etc and screw back onto lids.

I also like shelves. Alas, pictures on other potato.

20~30 lb plastic cat litter buckets are damn near as durable as a 5 gallon bucket and are square with a better lid.... great for organizing project specific stuff and generally free if you know folks with a cat...

Also harbor freights 50 cal ammo cans are currently 10$ each with their online coupon... you can get mill surp cheaper but only in a grade that requires sanding and painting for rust.... containerize everything

Although most of my tools go in a van so drawers aren’t a great option for me...

tldr
>start by getting rid of everything that is trash
>then get rid of anything does not meet your standards, is never used, or you just don't like
>really, throw it all out
>organize everything in a way that is easy to load and unload
>make a "default" state for everything that you can easily revert back to at the end of the day
>whenever you're done using something, put it the fuck back

the book is mostly about organizing your clothes, books, bedroom and normal household items, but it can easily be applied to work areas. just always finish a day by getting rid of trash, sweeping the floor, and putting all your tools and materials back into place.

No pictures of my mess but I'm planning on building something similar to pic that can store my tools and be functional in the small space I've allocated in my garage. The space this is going in is roughly 11 feet long and instead of both "wings" being equal sizes I'm planning to make the left wing about 6' long, miter saw part ~2ft, and the right wing will be the remaining 2.5-3' long

I have a small portable table saw that needs a rolling cart and can be stored under left wing when not in use. Going to make it wide so it can support larger work pieces and have shelving to store crosscut sleds and accessories for it. A second cart with router table for right side. Gonna put my small air compressor beneath the miter saw and a drill press on top of left wing. I already have a work bench and I am planning on making the table saw cart just a hair higher so I can use the work bench as an outfeed table when needed.
