How can I clean the barrel of a smooth bore BB/pellet gun? It's been sitting around for quite sometime
Pis unrelated

>> No.127254

you can get cleaning pellets and you just put them in and shoot them out, they are basically just cotton unless you have something seriously gummed up in there

>> No.127257

>>127254

otherwise get some pipe cleaners, that ought to work

>> No.127261

Would putting cotton in front of a BB/pellet work? it shoots near 300 fps

You can't measure IRL speed in frames per second dude.

>> No.127266

Feet per second buddy

Small dowel rod with hole in one end or straight coat hanger wire with a loop on the end. Put a piece of cloth through the hole/loop. Apply mineral spirits to the cloth and run it through a few times to get it all around in the barrel. Replace the cloth with a piece of stainless steel wire pot scratcher (non-soap kind). Scrub the hell out of it if you have lots of rust. Use cloth with mineral spirits to clean it out again. Then use a second cloth with gun oil or whatever oil you have to coat the inside of the barrel.

no that wont scrub the sides, do like the other guy says with the mineral spirits and stuff

>> No.127272

>>127267

This, and be sure to oil it up afterward for maximum fps.

BB s are .177 Cal. Get a .17 HMR cleaning kit at your local gun shop. Or as a last resort you can probably get one at Walmart....I would do the right thing and support your local ( legal ) gun dealer.,...... FUCK CORPORATE GREED,... buy from local businesses.

>> No.127284

DO NOT use a coat hanger, you will scratch up the barrel.
Go with the gun cleaning kit, you will get all the oils, solvents, brushes and cleaning patches you need with the kit.

Alright guys
Thanks for the info

>DO NOT use a coat hanger, you will scratch up the barrel.

It's a BB gun with smooth bore, not a rifled barrel. Plus, if there's no jagged edges you can't gauge the metal let alone scratch it. Even steel wool is not going to hurt it. I know I've done that very thing for years with BB rifles.

Seriously, of all the real acronyms I thought of, that was the LAST one I thought of.

Seriously, start to use the fucking metric system like the rest of /diy/ does.

I an answer to your question, dunk the whole gun in cleaning alcohol or high strength vodka (I'm assuming it's handgun sized) and then rinse with water, and then air dry.

Feed a cotton string down the barrel, tie a fragment of cleaning cloth or cotton rag to the threaded string, douse in oil or alcohol, and pull it through.

>> No.128354

What I am going to get...
It's the cheapest one, comes with everything and it has the word "local" in the URL
