Hey guys i dont really know shit about sheetrock but i did manage to fix my leaky roof by cutting a square in my ceiling.

I cut a piece of drywall to fit in the empty square but how do i achieve this textured look so everything looks uniform?

And as for the small spaces that arent covered by the drywall do i just use caulk to fill in the gaps?

Pic related this is what i want to achieve.

Look up california patch for drywall, texture is plaster push trowel into wet plaster pull straight off to get that texture

* use drywall mud instead of plaster

Is no one else going to question OPs claim that he fixed a leak by patching ceiling drywall?

I think he meant he cut it to access the leak and patch it, but even then...

Contractor here

OP will need:
>1 bucket of premixed drywall mud, thinned down to "thick soup"
>1 round stomp brush
>1 paint roller with a 3/4" nap roller

Steps
>roll thinned mud onto ceiling in the patch area
>dip stomp brush into thinned mud
>stomp wet mud-filled brush into wet ceiling mud
>pull brush away from ceiling, suction of 2 wet mud surfaces creates the texture.

You're welcome.
