So long story short I got this RV generator weighs 176lbs in the truck of my Honda Civic.

How do I get it back out by myself? I won't have help till this weekend but I wanna fuck around with it!!

Rent an engine hoist

>> No.2045215

Get sonethibg VERY sturdy to out it on that is about bumper height. Then get up ON the car and pick up one side using your legs with the proper lifting technique as ti not hurt your back. Only lift one side at a time, lift and twist one sideand begin to slide it out. Slowly and carefully setting it down often, move it to the platform. If you have a dolly or handcart you can now move it anywhere.

Sorry for all the typos, also twist it inside first, don't over exert yourself! If it's just movibg inches at a time that's fine.

You want it longways so you canpull it straight out.

Winbag to make space, then jack up one side with your car’s jack and rotate it towards the opening

That is if the jack isn’t underneath it

Get it like this, remember DO NOT try to lift this from waist height, it is too heavy get up on tge vehicle and use your leg muscles and don't push yourself.

>> No.2045227

>>2045224
Also if tge structure/frame is sturdy enough you want the heavy side away from you when pulling it out so you can use leverage of the fulcrum you're creating to liftthe heavier side out as opposed to just lifting it.

>> No.2045228

>>2045227
Use leverage wherever possible.

If you have an engine hoist why'd you have to ask 4chan? Lol

It usually takes a crane to get them out

Try to find a way to make a little ramp from the interior of the trunk over the lip, tie some rope from the generator to something strong behind the car, drive forward.

Might want to put something soft on the ground where the generator is going to fall. It will be out of the car at least...

You can rent them from Autozone, O'Reilly's, etc.

Ok I got it out. Couldn't get the engine hoist cus its stuck in mud and also weighs like 500LBS itself. I ended up just manhandling it out. Paint on my rear bumper got scratched but thats the least of the pant issues on that car anyway.

Hoist tip, replace casters with much larger wheels. I put rear spindles from front wheel drive cars on the rear of mine 30 years ago and can pull big blocks in a sand yard. I replaced the forward casters with solid round bar and small solid mower front wheels. I use a comealong, my winch, or a strap and another vehicle to tow them short distances in my yard.

Download the free military rigging manual and you can learn many useful ways to lift and move anything.

Try to lever it out but be careful not to rip your bumper off.
