Ideas for a DIY bed tent/privacy screen?
I don't havea chair, or desk and I live in a house with 8 others, and I also share a room.
I just want to study in peace, do any of you have ideas for a DIY bed tent or something of that nature? I am a student so I obviously can't afford $100 for one of these

>tfw never going to make it
Use thumbtacks to pin an old sheet or shower curtain to the ceiling around your bed so you can jack off in peace, lol. Just goto the library for studying because that is totally free and you may start to meet other people who are trying to move up like you. With 8 people in the same house you will never have peace and quiet. When you are poor as shit you should spend as much time as you can away from other shitty poor people. When you are young you should do as much as you can outside in the real world and not in a 4 walled one.

I actually recommend living in close proximity to numerous people for those that just left their parents ~18-23.
It will teach you a lot about boundaries, courtesy, and patience.
And maybe give you a real eye opener on how terrible many people are, like it did for me.

A post on /diy/ always benefits from a pic not just related, but of.
>Is this a studio?
>Do you share a room?
>Do you have a corner?
>How high are the ceilings and what are they made of?
>How widely spaced are the walls and what are they made of?

Have you looked into Japanese style partions, or old school changing screens?
The also make plastic accordion style doors meant for closets.
None of these will be sound proof of course, but that is easily remedied. YOU will still be heard "studying" thou. Better put in the plugs, hand a sock and crank the bass.

Meant "hang a sock" but still works.

Enlist in the military. Go with whatever has the shortest active enlistment period that isn't directly in combat. Like a cook. All contracts are 8 years but they generally have an active portion and an inactive portion. The 2 year bit you are looking for is the active portion. The remaining 6 will be inactive and you just have to keep your nose clean and hope they don't call you back while you live your normal life. If you are something like a cook, they won't. When in the military you can take US military correspondence courses for free. They are accredited and transfer to most schools. If you are smart you will have a fat stack of cash saved up (don't do stupid shit like buy a new car or get a GF, save your money). When you are done you have 4 years of GI Bill that cover 100% of your costs to any accredited school in the US. That includes books AND your living expenses. When I got out they covered all of my school expenses plus cut me a check for $1,500 every month on top of that. It varies based on where you live. You also get veterans' status (great when applying for government jobs) and VA loans for life. No loans, no debt, and 2 years is short enough that it won't impact your life much.

If you are gonna go through some shit like whatever your current living situation is, you might as well be getting paid for it.

Forgot to add, use the VA loans to qualify for a loan. Use the money you saved to put a nice down payment on a house. Use your GI Bill payments to pay the mortgage. I was frugal as shit in the Army so I had a fat wad saved up but I also did 4 years. I put 20% down on a place (in California no less), bought a used truck, and still had enough left over to have several months of operating money in case I lost my income for some reason. I got a 15-year mortgage and used 4 years of GI Bill money to pay that fucker down. I only had 8 years with of principle left on it by the time I graduated. At that point, I had to scale back my payments because it took me several months to get a job and a year or so to build my emergency fund back up (shoot for 6 months of emergency funds).

I ended up moving so I sold the place when I was about 3 years from paying it off. I moved to a place out in the sticks so I was "able" to buy the place outright. I didn't. I got another VA loan and used the money to refurbish the place. Again, a 15-year term but, because I put a huge down payment on it, the monthly payments were next to nothing. I saved up for a few years and just paid it off way early. I can tell you make that last mortgage payment feels like winning the fucking lottery.

Nah, they don't. I was a mechanic. Miltary stuff is super specific and oddly out of date. Everything is chosen for durability and reliability. So, military vehicals are missing a lot of the things that are present on modern vehicles. Like emission control systems or even fucking mufflers. Or they are present but are super fucking old school. ABS was only added to some vehicles starting in the 90s and they are not anything like modern ones.

Same with their electronics, computers and radios. SINCGARS radios (first deployed in 1990 and still in use) used basically nothing that is considered current in the civilian world while having a bunch of stuff civvies have no use for; like frequency hopping and replaceable encryption keys. Up until about 10 years ago they were still using GPS receivers first deployed in the 1980s. Their FBCB2 system uses computer internals that were out of date 10 years ago. So, when you apply for jobs you will find you have some pretty huge holes in your experience and no one will want you or you will start at the bottom anyway.

So, be a cook or an armorer or work in S-4 or something. Medics get good training but they are combat roles. Anything combat arms is only good if you want to be a cop and cops can be pieces of shit. Be a firefighter instead. No one is ever unhappy to see you and you get bought a lot more beers. Heavy equipment operator is the only thing that is fairly easy to get as a military job that I can think of as truly useful when you get out but that is a pretty shit job in the long run. Right up there with truck driver.
