I would like to make my door more soundproof... any ideas how i can achieve that ? Maybe nailing nails onto the door and hang little bags full of sand on it ?

If you've already sealed around the outside of the door then that should have eliminated the high-frequency sounds coming through, you should be left with only lower frequency sounds now.

To reduce or eliminate them, you need to introduce a void space between the corridor and your apartment. Whatever void space is inside the door is not sufficient.

You could frame out a box on the back of the door, with wood, and cover it in plywood/mdf thin panels. This would make the door 'deeper'. You could also add foam inside the new void to reduce sound wave propagation through the space.

You can probably also do all of this in a reversible way, if you're renting.

Just watched that video, goddamn. Screw my previous post just above, just get a thick pile of towels and secure them to the back of the door. Could probably find a stack of them in goodwill for not much money, then just need to come up with some way of hanging them to cover as much of the door as possible.

Great find anon. I was going to recommend building a new doors with sound dampening drywall inside but this beats it just about every way.

And yet your first idea was "Maybe nailing nails onto the door and hang little bags full of sand on it"

So now you're just nitpicking. Also, that video shows a way of doing it that looks fine.

This. Take apart the door front. Doors are usually hollow and stuff the hollow full of earplugs. Reassemble and wala

Melamine foam. AKA Magic Erasers.

They were originally used for professional soundproofing. Later they found they're great for cleaning too. You can get a big garbage bag full of them for $10 on ebay.

1. Cut a piece of cardboard or cloth the size of your door, with some overhang around the edges.
2. Glue the foam to the cardboard.
3. Hang the cardboard/cloth on the door.

If it doesn't dampen the noise enough, just glue on another layer. Easy peasey.

The best part is, when you move, you can easily it take down and reuse it again at the next place. If you used cloth you can just roll it up for easy transport.

You're welcome.

A layer of closed cell foam, and a layer of mass loaded vinyl. Melamine foam is good as well, but alot more bulky. All three together are tits. There are a few websites that sell all three in bulk. Sounddeadenershowdown even has the installation tools and tutorials on how to use the shit. If budget isn't a big deal. Buy a roll of soundskinz. It's butyl runner backed with closed cell foam. Then top that with a layer of mlv. You can use heavy duty Velcro to hold up the mlv.

Previous Responses are Retarded due to basic physics
>sound waves energy is reduced by mass
>a heavy solid door is the single most important thing
>making something airtight, and foam this and that will do very little
>a big heavy well fitting solid door is the only option (for all practical purposes)

Background, in sound studios they sometimes have huge doors weighing hundreds of pounds. The thing is, the last bit of sound reduction requires exponentially more mass. So you can get most of the benefit from a simple heavy door.

All the other shit on here was litterally retard reddit tear. By a solid core door and put a sweep on it. Foam really only stops reflection (i.e. sound bouncing off shit/echoing) Put a pillow under your desk, knock on desk. It doesnt change the sound. Knock on a desk twice as thick, the sound is changed.

It's not about what you think. Language and spelling change whether you want them to or not. If you think otherwise, or if you think you can influence it, you are an idiot. And honestly, the "thinking" that you've done so far has been basically impotent, so why even continue?
