Hey, does any one know a way of making home made crystals? I'm just looking for something small with simple instructions. Maybe something I can make with things I have around the house? Any ideas will help!

Alum crystals.

Anything you grow at home is going to be some type of hydrated salt that will crumble apart and lose moisture with time.

You need a string, a cup of water and a lot of spoons of sugar. Put the sugar into the water, mix it, put the string into the water, let one side of the string to get out of the water and wait a couple of days

First, start out by getting ephradine. You can find it in most cough medications, but it can be hard to get. Then, get some acetone from nail polish remover, lithium from batteries, toluene from paint thinners, hydrochloric acid (a bit hard to get), this thing called psuedoephedrine (found in cold medication), sodium hydroxide (found in drian cleaners), red phosphorus (get some fireworks and you might be able to find it), sulfuric acid (extract from toilet cleaner), lighter fluid, iodine crystals, anhydrous ammonia (found in fertilizer/countertop cleaner), Ether found in starting fluid, and antifreeze. Now get a soda bottle, add all of the ingredients and shake, shake, shake! crystals should form, if not, a liquid will. Freeze this liquid and you have homemade crystals!

Has anyone tried making crystals like these under partial vacuum or increassed pressure? Home canning jars could be used for that fairly easily.

I remember some do better when very hot or under great pressure.
