What are some alternate fuels for my Zippo?

>> No.894865

>>894855
You can use gasoline if you really want to.

Just buy fucking lighter fluid. It's cheap and a big can lasts a while.

Most alternates suck. I've tried them on deployment when I was bored, and at home because I have lots of solvents.

I buy lighter fluid.

I ended up rolling up a paper towel and sticking it in a saucer of olive oil

Anything other than the brand Zippo fluid burns real shit.

Alcohol burns too quickly and eats up your wick very very fast. You'll have to replace your wick weekly. Evaporates and smells very bad.

Campingfuel/white gas/naptha: mayor component of zippo fluid. Works okayish but evaporates in a couple days instead of 2 weeks

Turpetine is just straight nasty

Get a Z-plus butane gas insert. Zippo-m'ladyness with the ease of use of a butane light. Does never evaporate but does not stay lit by itself.

Just filled my cheap fake zippo with gas for small engines (lawn movers, chain saws, trimmers etc) and the only difference I notice compared to a genuine Zippo with genuine Zippo brand fuel is that the flame is bigger.

If you buy the whole lighter from Z-Plus the body is made by them as well. You need a genuine Zippo case with their single-burner insert. The lids do tend to get some slack due to a lower neck on the insert. I just put in a small tab of thick paper beneath the insert.

>Lid doesn't click right
It might not be the crisp tuningfork-esque click/clack/plingk. But it keeps the lid shut so quit whining

Zippo brand lighter fluid.

Whatever they use, it's supposed to be so refined that it evaporates without leaving behind residue and it doesn't leave a smell.

If you need fluid to start charcoal for grilling, use Zippo fluid. It doesn't give your food a funny taste.

That shit's way too expensive for what it is. Just get a bottle of ronsonol. Twice as much for half the price, and I have noticed exactly no fucking difference.

Watch from 4:30mins in. He's basically fucking around with lighters than his house catches on fire.

Wet towel would have saved his house.

>> No.898048

These lighters will run on anything that's volatile enough to light with a spark. Some fuels might cause the wick to burn up prematurely though.

>> No.898049

I love lighters like this, but the problem is that I can never stop the fuel from evaporating. Unless I make sure to keep it topped off, it's never ready when I need it.

oof, that shit is scary

I keep a fire extinguisher in my car and several in the house in easy to get places.

Was working on a friends truck in his garage, when the carb leaked or something, and the engine caught fire. It got crazy FAST. Lucky he had a fire extinguisher in the garage or it would have burnt his garage and probably his house down.

Ive kept them around since then
