are air hammers(labeled as chiselers,scrapers) the same as pneumatic hammers(labeled as rivet guns)? they look the same but i cant find much information about them.wiki says they are different but could i use them as the same thing? at hardware stores they are labeled as pneumatic scrapers,chiselers.

Yes and no. Often manufactures use the same grip and anvil across a line, but they all hve different uses

they are different but i assume that you are talking pop rivets that work like a nailgun and not something like what an actual rivet gun is used for.

well it really depends on the process in use at the workplace. modern airplanes dont have rivets, they're sticky taped together or welded. but pop rivets can also be used, sticky tape is just better. perhaps you are trying to google "pneumatic pop rivet gun"?

I am not an expert but this is what I am told:
1--air hammers use the same mechanisms as air chisels and needle scalers. these devices have a trigger that works either (100%) on or (0%) off. You cannot adjust it to hit with, say, 50% strike force.

2--true air rivet guns (for driving solid rivets, not blind/pop rivets) have a "feathering" trigger, that allows you to control how hard they hit by how far you pull the trigger. When you drive a rivet down, you start out hitting it hard, and then back off the power as it gets close to the length you want it.

3--air hammers cost $30-$100, and air riveters cost $250-$500 (as I have seen it, USA prices, and the only air riveters I have seen were sold online at aircraft places. I've never seen one in a walk-in tool/hardware store)

4--air riveters are usually the ONLY tool that usually have a feathering trigger, because they are the only tools that require it to work properly. There is no cheaper substitute that can do the same thing.

In an emergency setting you can try to use an air hammer to work solid rivets, but the results will be rather poor.

Because you faggots are obviously too basic to have heard of composite aircraft wings and components (as used by the A380; you may have heard of it), or understand the effect parasitic drag has on airframe performance, here's some info. Have pic related as well, a rivet less wing/mainspar assembly. Feel free to go google up some info on all the composite aircraft Cessna have been making since 2007 as well if you'd like.
