My Father and I found this stick while we were out walking along a trail. He seemed to like the patterns on the stick. His birthday is coming up and I want to make something out of this stick for him. Got any ideas?

you could add a spindle-like design on the top quarter of the stick and give it a goat head at the top.

go ahead and add an intricate pentagram near the middle or bottom and do some custom designs around that.

cut it into small pieces and turn it into a coat hanger

Perfect for roasting stuff on, plus it has a handle to turn!

But that would take a lot of effort only to create something as small and insignificant as a coat hanger. Besides it wouldn't show off any good qualities of the wood.

>He seemed to like the patterns on the stick
I've seen patterns like this, I think it's some kind of fungicidal illness.
From what I learned, these patterns are just on the outer layer of the wood and fade (but not entirely) when dry.

nice idea.
but that stick is shit tier and half eaten by fungi.
go to the woods and get a decent one.

True it might be a fucked up piece of wood, but that doesn't mean its unworkable. I've done one project in the past to make a walking stick out of a similar piece of wood (fucked up with fungus and shit) but it turned out great. I would do the same thing but its just too unwieldy to make a good walking stick.

Just clean it up and put a few coats of lacquer on it so he can use it as a cane when his legs are old and busted.

>shit tier stick

You should make a stick tiers illustration for diy.

It looks big enough to make you a couple of coat hangers at least
Maybe use it to decorate something else though? If it's the pattern he likes

Buy a head to a gear shift and take the screwable bottom metal bit out. Make something cool out of the wood and put the metal bit at the bottom.

Make a pestle if you've got a mortar to go along with it. That one could be done quick.

A fork, spoon or knife (iffin you're willing to sharpen it every now and then).

Cut it until it's straight and line his favorite shelf with the wood - if it fits and he enjoys it.

A ruler.

A stand for a laptop - line the top where the laptop sits with aluminum to suck up heat that pours out or tries to come back in.

A dildo.

I'd build it into a floor lamp. I'm thinking stainless shade and base.

We call it splating, and it makes wood much more valuable if it is aesthetically pleasing.

Spalted wood is usually not good for anything that needs to be strong. So a lamp or just finish it and use it as a decoration or center piece.

Turn it into a very innefective shortstaff.
Put a butt on one end and turn the other end into a (slightly blunt so you don't kill eachother) pike-head.
