Today, I made a bottleneck live trap. There's a hole under my chicken yard fence that raccoons enter through. The biggest one is too smart to get captured in the baited Hav-a-hart trap.

I made this one with 2 one-way push doors. Once caught I can relocate the animal. To let the animal out, I just flip the cage upside down. The doors fall open and the animal escape.

the contacts are under a thin sheet of plastic with resistive carbon in it, so when yuo press the pad, the carbon touches the contact and closes the circuit, after some time the carbon start to dissapear, the thing is that the graphite in a normal black pencil is really similar to the stuff they use in the contacts, so yuo jus grab a pencil and paint all the surface where the carbon used to be and voilá, it works just as good.

I got tired of having to move my scrollsaw from storage to bench every time I needed to use it, so I decided to make a cabinet for it today. It's pretty much a smaller version of the cabinet I made for my bandsaw last month, except this is all drawers with an open-face shelf under the top for quick access. It is on 4 casters that swivel, 2 of which lock.
I ordered some brass drawer handles but they won't be here until after the weekend so I will have to wait on those.

pic brings to mind the Saturday Night Live phrase, ''needs more Oscilloscope''

anyway, you're doing your drawings ''wrong'' - you should be thinking in abstract terms of functionality, not physical layout. so, your gates should look like gates, and be placed in a logical sequence, like in the pic.

if counting pins is a problem, then you can print out the chip layout and stick it on top of the chip. it's a great time saver.

>> No.834129

Including layout information in the drawings doesn't mean you're not thinking of functionality. It's easier to put a circuit together when your drawings show how components connect to the chip pins, so that's how I draw them.

puting the heatsink outside was more of a bitch than you might think.
to make room i had to resolder the connections to the other side of the board.

the board is so thermally conductive that i had to use a compound to lower the solders melting temperature and heat it like crazy.
the whole board was so hot that i thought i might have ruined it by messing up the smd fets flowsoldering.

it worked fine luckily.

the solderbuckets for the battery connections were ruined so i have to improvise.

I have a really decent desk, about 12 years old, and I've been re-finishing the top to a darker color.

Only problem is that it's laminate, not veneer, so I've been doing it a slightly weird way, using minwax "polyshades" tinted polyurethane. Shoulve done more homework on that particular product, since a ton of people say it's a fucking pain in the ass, and I agree with them. Leaves absurd amounts of brush strokes, and it's really fucking thick, making my first layer all kinds of fucked up. Fixed it with a fuckton of wet sanding.

However, I'm on track now; I've put down 2 coats, wet-sanding with 220 in-between, and then wet-sanded the second coat with 800, 1200, then 2000. It's smooth and even as fuck now.

Pic is the little clean room I've set up in the garage.

For the final coat, I'm just using plain clear semigloss poly. Afterward, I'm going to use the "final buff" version of that 3M finishing pad.

Write a letter to your local rail station. They should let you come in and have a chunk of scrap rail, if not cut and mail it to you. You'll have to pay postage, obviously.

If you're unlucky, and they sell it as scrap to a yard, rather than keeping it around for misc purposes, it ought to be dirt cheap, and you should be able to get two decent chunks for $5 or something.

I MADE NOTHING!!!! A made a deal with myself that I would refrain from any tinkering until I moved my shit from the house to my work building which needs to be cleaned because the old lady is pissed about a constant mess of wires parts and tools on kitchen table

but I've built the base complete with H- bridge, charge controller, li-ion batteries and two 5v boost converters for a box shaped robot I'm going to call CUBERT but until I do the above mentioned I can't go further. It's burning me up inside.

I posted in the stupid questions thread on /g/ I already tried the diskpart, list disk, select disk 0, clean. tried formatting, tried windows 10 and windows 7 on a flash drive.
I just changed the bios hard disk setting to LBA assist from automatic.
someone on /g/ said to change from sata to ahci, but I don't have that option in the bios. also I was using rufus to make the bootable usb stick from the .iso, right now I'm using the windows 7 usb/dvd download tool to do it, so we'll see here in a minute.
also I was able to make a linux bootable usb install and move some files around between hard drives and I tried several hard drives with the windows install.
also tried doing various formats with diskpart and restarting at various times to no avail.

>> No.838727

>>838710
I just downgraded from Win8 to Win7 because I don't like change and Windows 8 frightens me. My main issue was the disk formatting. You have to do something like the following:
1. Disable Virtualization Technology in BIOS
2. Enable Legacy Support
3. Make sure your boot order is relevant (i.e. Bootable USB at the top of the list)
4. Delete all the hard-disk drive partitions (don't worry about thei names or anything, they can all be deleted)
5. Create new partition as type UEFI

It should work this way. I found a youtube video that helped me a lot, I will link.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t89VQP0ZCLY

I thought SATA was like physically a type of harddrive moreso than a software thing you could change in BIOS, but I am pretty potato at computers.

The Rufus program didn't really work for me either, Windows 7 usb/dvd download tool did it for me as well. Good luck and check back if you need more help.

Currently making a boat i've been making over the past 3 years, must have put over 1000 hours into now i'd imagine.

it's about 95% scratch built from beech, walnut, lime and some other woods I forget now.
The dooralone to below deck took around 3 days to plan and make out of around 30pcs of walnut and the surrounding cabin even more so, every strip of wood is individual on the deck and hull which also has internal bulkheads too.
The ratline up the mainmast has around 360 knots, I can't get all the mast into shot as it's over a foot tall, still have a fair bit of rigging/sails to do but it is mostly done now.

My dad got me the materials and plans when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, his ashes are in the hull now along with 3 locks of hair in the cabin, mine, my dads and my mums, there are also a few handwritten notes inside the sealed hull that notes who my dad was, what he did for a living, who he was married too etc, mabe in 100 years somebody will read them after i'm gone too, who knows..

M dad wanted to see it completed but he never did, it was my last promise to him to finish the boat, it is named Komodo as it was the name he used to use online when he used to play Red Orchestra, Total War etc.

Excuse the shitty camera shots.

Thanks man I appreciate that, I probably wouldn't have put as much effort into it if the circumstances were different

My dad was a carpenter by trade (I used to work with him) he never really got to see me apply the stuff he taught me on a scale like this, so kinda miss him admiring the effort I put into it, in a way it kinda feels like performing in a theater with no audience.

That was what initially made me hesitant to do it (M50x has that proprietary twist-lock thing, though the jack is smaller), but it's a fairly robust jack. It catches the bump in the tip and grips tighter than an Asian virgin, so I'm good.

Also, most plugs don't protrude past the bottom of the ear cup, so there's little chance of breakage. I didn't notice a big difference in practice between the original strain relief and the plug.

>>847500
I do make my own aux cables. This was a cheap test order/spare from DX. I've since ordered nice TRS plugs for the original cable and I'm making another mic cable for this one.

As for the nut, I thought I'd care more about how it looks, but in practice no one really sees it and I torqued it pretty tight, so I might not change it.
