I want to make one of these as a gift, but is it safe? I've read arguments about needing to insulate the tin but no directions on what that means?

Would you or have you done this for yourself? Any input is appreciated.

Just make sure there is no way the positive and negative can touch each other or bare metal. You can do that by just taping up the inside of the box and the soldered connections.
Though, even if it were to short out, it wouldn't be dangerous.

A sharp knife. Just push it through the can. Cut a wide X where you want the hole then fold over the cut tabs to the inside. Altoids can isn't fucking anything, man.
Support the back of the cut with a piece of wood.
