I just got this new metal dick extension for a price too good to pass up. Came with controller, pendant, steel base, an HMI, and a VMEbus motion controller.
Its a Motoman SK6 with MRC controller, 6 axis, 6kg payload. Guy sold the welding unit seperate but what ever I didnt exactly want to weld with this. so comments, questions or help me.

Everything appears to be here wire/part wise.

I just need to find out how to get 3phase in my area. I will probably opt for a phase converter if that will work.
I have a guy that I'm going to bring in to check out thew high voltage stuff

Unless theres a business in your area you wont have 3 phase at your pole. If its not at your pole its gonna cost a FUCKTON to get installed.

check these out, I'm sure it will be cheaper than getting 3Φ wired to your workshop.

from a country rube on kijiji for,.,,,,,$500.00 robot, controller, pendant, an hmi, and a vme motion controller for something else. he sold the welder for $300

what wont i use it for? first thing is a fleshlight end of arm tool.

closest business is 1km away on the next city block, which is an industrial area. i will have to call to find out. probably not going to get them to install one if its not the.

thats what i was hoping, cheaper. I guess i just need to figure out the load. those ebay ones are alot cheaper than i thought. im not replacing the ac servo motors for single phase ones.
I can get one thats rated properly for the whole controller and not 6 individual ones for each motor?

Be real careful around that thing once you start using it. It can kill you. Usually in factories these are placed inside cages.

there is phase convertors sold for machine tools for this. the two types are solid-state and rotary.

rotary is more expensive but you don't need it--the point of a rotary converter is that the frequency of the output is variable, so you can run a 3-phase lathe or mill motor at variable speeds when it originally only ran at one speed.

phase converters for metalworking machines are usually rated in horsepower, but 1 hp = 750 watts or so. So you'd need to figure out how many watts your penis needs.

Didn't know that was possible, that's kinda pic related.

Need to read up on them. They aren't really phase converters.
They're just a 'kickstarter' that makes something 'like' three phase for a moment to start the three phase motor.
Once the motor starts, they drop out of the circuit.
The three phase motor ends up running on only one phase.
So: you'd need one for each motor.

Rotary converters using an 'idler' motor actually deliver three phase electricity and can run multiple motors.
The kickstarter circuit gets the idler motor running off the single phase and the idler 'sorta' acts like a generator creating true three phase.

You can buy the starter off eBay and get the three phase idler locally so you don't have to pay shipping on it.

Check around, read up on it.

So jelly. What software are you going to use to control it?

>> No.709451

It's neat. Pretty much a motor + generator. motor runs off the mains you can get, then the generator gives you three phase off of it.

The motors aren't actually directly connected to 3 phase, right? I'd expect the 3 phase incoming power to be rectified to DC, and then motor controllers / inverters operating the servo motors.

>> No.709484

Sub $50 3kW 12V or 48V power supplies are very easy to get on ebay (PSUs from blade chassisis)
I wonder if it is possible to get three cheap 1ph inverters and mod them to make single 3ph inverter.

I want a physical copy of the manuals to leave with the machine, so i went to staples because I only have a 3dprinter in my house . they wont print it because it has a copyright on it. they would only do 10% of the 500+ pages i want.
I think If i take off the first page that says copyright it will be fine

Program with teach pendant for now until I find something cheap/free ish, Motoman software is expensive but well see how much money im into it by the time i need software. linuxcnc converts gcode to kinematics so ill have to look into it . the linux robot operating system ROS has things for motoman robots that i also need to look into. but i want to be able to do things like this somehow http://blogger.popcnt.org/2008/08/presentation-hacking-industrial-robots.html

^this guy is thinking what I am here....

I would look around inside (or at any info you can get) and see what kind of DC the electronics + motors really need.
neither the electronics nor the small servomotors is going to *really* run off 3-phase AC; there is a DC power supply in there somewhere. that's all you need to match.

the main times you see these things with 3-phase motors is when they have hydraulic actuation and there is a hydraulic power pack with a pump motor that really does use the 3-phase power.

Use it as a drill press. get a 4 jaw chuck and use it to hold work pieces in the most convenient way.

start a youtube channel and use it as a second personality.
