What have you built recently, /diy/? Just finished my first folding knife (and third knife ever) along with this pattern welded letter opener (not heat treated because I ran out of oxygen for my MAP gas burner)

>> No.688515

Why does that letter opener remind me of a throwing knife.

Either way, cool OP.

Do you carve with your knives or anything?

>>688515
Thanks. Well it was a weird cross between a dagger and letter opener. Still on the fence about gifting it as I originally intended since recipient to be is a somewhat fruity office worker. Nah don't carve wood, too much of a librul city slicker so mostly plan on making EDC and kitchen knives.

Less blurry pictures would be nice but they're pretty cool looking. Digging the wood handles, especially the finger notches and shapes.

Diluted ferric chloride (circuitboard etchant). Most people buy liquid from RadioShack. Mine was from a local surplus electronics store that sold it in a powder

I've gone back to school already, these two were literally my last ditch summer projects so can't even if I wanted to. The unevenness was kind of unavoidable since I wanted the etch to show up on the tang and my tolerances were kinda sloppy. The wood and metal were sanded together, then the metal was etched and the wood bolted and epoxied on, but everything didn't quite line up perfectly

If you're a /diy/ regular, then you probably have. I've been working on this shit on and off for like the past half a year and only wrapped it up recently. I've even posted the Damascus batch it was from a long time ago

I just finished minutes ago building a cold room (walkin-in cooler) in the barn to store the farm's vegetables.

Seems to be looking fine.
Can't wait to fill it up to see if it keeps that sweet, sweet cold air in.

I know a girl that would flip shit (in a good way) if I started making bondage gear. Sometime I'll probably build her a small bed frame with anchor points for ropes and the like. Damn, I love that girl.

> what do you use as a mold?

I cast Epoxy moulds.

I already have one moulder that I built last year. This was mainly a lost foam casting project and an attempt at keeping costs as low a possible- basically just buy electronic stuff and salvage or cast/build the rest.
