Hey /diy/. Battery question here, I know you guys tend to know your stuff.

I'd love some help trying to get a replacement battery for my laptop that lasts longer, and actually understand what it all means/how it works.

Current battery:
11.1 volts
3500mAH
39wh
Rated for 3 hours max life, I get 2. Need it for school, fixed it myself, and need it to last longer.

I understand larger mAH should help, as would a higher wh. But I'm sure there's other considerations. I've found a few that say they're for the same model laptop. (vaio vpcee32fx) but have different specs. Wondering which one would work, work best, and why, if anyone can break it down for me.

Others I found:
11.1V, 5800mAh, 64Wh
10.8V, 6600mAh (doesn't list Wh)
11.1V (10.8V OK) 5200mAh (doesn't list Wh)

Again, some help in understanding would be awesome!

Well I feel stupid.

Almost defeats the purpose, but that'd do the trick.

Also, charger is:
In: 100-240v~1.5A
Out: 19.5v --- 3.3A
(if it matters)

>Current battery:
>11.1 volts 3500mAH 39wh
11.1v x 3.5A = 38.85Wh

>11.1V, 5800mAh, 64Wh
11.1 x 5.8A = 64.38Wh
See what's going on here?

>11.1V (10.8V OK) 5200mAh (doesn't list Wh)
11.1 x 5.2A = ~58Wh

>10.8V, 6600mAh (doesn't list Wh)
10.8v x 6.6A = 71.28Wh
This is the one for highest capacity.
They are all lithium batteries so the voltage variation is just a different point the manufacturer chose to list.
All will be ~12.6v at full charge and drop to ~10v when discharged.
Go with the highest Ah or MAh rating for longest run time.
Your charger should work fine but will take longer to recharge the higher capacity battery if it's depleted.
(If you replenish power at a constant rate, it takes longer to do if you used more.)

The more mAh (mili apmhere hours) it has, the more "juice" it can hold. Get the one with biggest mah's and youre good to go

OP either way you should also work on improving battery life in general on the laptop

If you really wanna maximize time use from the battery switch your hdd for an SSD, disable stuff in BIOS, and mess around with OS side settings to get the most of it

Thank you so much!

>This is the one for highest capacity.
So I'm gonna go ahead and order it, unless there's some reason it wouldn't work with that charger.

>switch your hdd for an SSD
Not really cost effective or viable for me in terms of storage.

>disable stuff in BIOS
New to me. What in the BIOS would I disable for battery life? (Only used to tweaking desktops)

>mess around with OS side settings
Done that, but again, for certain things, not so viable. Need to get the most out of my processor.
