My younger brother was assigned a to make a quiz board project for physics class, and I believe that instead of doing what is shown on the format sheet, we could make one much more attractive and practical.

Here's my problem... I have never even touched a wire before. So, I just need a little help on the set-up, and what I should purchase. I've already done a little bit of homework about this, so lets see if it pays off.

Basically, we have 6 questions and six answers.
I need a momentary button next to each of the questions, that when pressed down will light up a christmas light that is next to that questions corresponding answer.
All of this should be able to fit on a 24'' x 14'' foam board.

Diagram time!

() = Button Off | (!) = Button Press
** = Light Off | *!* = Light ON

() Question # 1 Answer # 4 **
() Question # 2 Answer # 3 **
() Question # 3 Answer # 1 **
() Question # 4 Answer # 5 **
() Question # 5 Answer # 2 **

When playing the game:
(!) Question # 1 Answer # 4 **
() Question # 2 Answer # 3 **
() Question # 3 Answer # 1 *!*

() Question # 5 Answer # 2 **

Anyone think they can help a poor soul out?

sorry for late reply, so what is the matter ? you don't know the circuit ? tell us what the problem is

you need a battery, wire, six buttons and six lights.
connect one side of battery to 1 terminal of every switch.
individually connect the other terminal of the switch to one terminal on the light.
connect the other terminals of the lights all to the other side of the battery

I thought he would have known that... if you use leds, search for an LED-calculator online to see wich resistor(s) you will need
an LED runs at 25milliAmps and has a forward volateg drop of around 3 volts ( white and blue ) green and red are a little more than 2 volts.

Sorry for the misdirection, but I actually need to power two lights for each button click. So how would I go about doing so?

probably LED i guess... cheap, efficient, small, no discussion !
take the same amount of wires from the negative side of the battery as you need switches ( so 4 switches, 4 leads ) connect each wire to one side of the switch, the other side of the switch to the two leds in parrallel, then those two to the same resistor ( wich you calclulated, i can do it for you if you have the numbers ) the other end of the resistor to the positive side of the battery, do this for all the leds and switches

1) Don't have fun with the project. This is motherfucking school. The teacher is there to grind your brother into dust. Even if you knew how to do what you wanted, it would not be avisable because the teacher would fail him for not following directions.
2) You don't even know what you want to do, but you want to change everything?

>>624991
why would you say something like that ? maybe the directions is just the outcome and he can be creative, also, he will learn much more from asking questions

School is not about fucking learning. Do you even remember going to school?

it's about learning to follow instructions. which is important if say you ever get a job and need to do what you're told.

Just ask the teacher if your revised quiz board is acceptable for the project. If no, stick to the original format. If yes, go to town.

>engineer to be

Oh lord, you better catch up with learning the fundamentals of electric circuits if you need to ask /diy/ on how to wire LEDs, Mr. Engineer to be.

Don't do this for your brother. His teacher will let him fail for not doing what he's supposed to. Creativity has no place in school, that's why it's school, to learn what you're told and do what you're told.
