Not sure if anyone here knows about gardening / landscaping, but here goes… The snow that was in my front yard just melted, and I noticed that the Yew hedge in front of my house has large brown patches on it. Does anyone know what this is or what I can do about it? Is my hedge just a goner, or can I trim it or something?

Wait and see. Spring is here, you'll know soon enough.

OP if you're still around, can you post any pics?
What is your rough location, too?

It's possible that salt, put down to melt snow/ice has washed onto the hedge and caused the brown patches. It's unlikely to be honey fungus as Yew is very resistant to it, luckily.

Yew is one of the few conifers that respond well to hard pruning, even into the brown 'dead' middle bits.

While I was in Afghanistan my home down south climate evidently actually got cold maybe even freezing temps at times. Wen I returned I noticed that the leaves of my sago palms turned brown as well as everyone else palms. I hav tried googlin tis question with no results. My question is are they dead: the female palm at the bottom pods leaves are green. I realize it is spring and I will discover eventually if indeed they have perished or not. How could u determine if they still remains life in the palms? The reason I am particularly concerned is tat I hav raised them for some time now, sago palms grow slow as shit, and they are quite large now.

Are they 'common' Cycas relovuta? Frost will certainly damage the foliage and can kill them entirely is the frost is hard enough.

As you said, you'll find out soon enough if any new foliage appears but you could try gently scraping a bit of the outer 'bark' stuff away from base and see if it's still a healthy white colour and firm to the touch. If it's all soft and rotten, they probably won't recover.

Don't over water then in this state, just keep them very lightly moist until you (hopefully) see any new leaves.
