There are no tables or lawn chairs in the picture.

There totally is a purple and pink lawn chair on the right side of the picture, the table I assume is over the seat of it

You know, if you just salvaged your components instead of buying them, those leads would be shorter and you could cram them into smaller compartments.

Those resistors are all different values. Have fun digging through that fucking mess whenever you need the ones you want.

>> No.592870

>>592863
There's even some diodes mixed in there.

Resistors cost less than a penny each. I salvage all kinds of things, but resistors are just a waste of time.

>> No.592871

>>592863
People say this all the time. I think it is because they don't instantly know the values when they look at resistors and have to look up the numbers. Must be maddening and slow. I normally dump mine out into a tray, lift the ones I need and dump them back in. It is just as fast as grabbing marked compartments and grabbing a few from them.

Fuck, that shit on your fridge isn't a choking hazard or anything.... Awesome idea!!

When your wife gets home and sees what you've done, you'll be living in the garage anyway, so might as well set it up there (on the beer/game fridge)

Sure that works when you want a 10k but what happens when you're looking for a rarer value?

Not him, but I recognize all the E12 values instantly and many E96 values as well.
Finding anything from that pile of junk would still require some searching and ... nothing guarantees that the value you're trying to find actually is there and detecting that requires an exhaustive search.

But that's actually unimportant. Someone who thinks that salvaging carbon film resistors is worth his time shouldn't have problems spending some time going through his unsorted collection.

If I wasn't color blind, I might consider salvaging resistors. But when they go for cents it's so much easier to just buy in number. Bonus for having non-mangled leads too.

>> No.594479

>>593872
I'm not color blind, but sometimes even I have a hard time distinguishing some colors. Like sometimes I can't tell if a band is supposed to be black or some really dark green. And sometimes it's too light to be black, but too dark to be brown, but too shit colored to be anything else. They're printed pretty badly sometimes, and when it comes to salvaging they tend to fade into either shit or piss colors, which is when it's time to give up and buy new resistors.

>> No.594486

>>594479
when you've been at it a long time, you can usually tell what the color is by what it's next to because of standard values, unless it's the multiplier band.
Yellow, violet I automatically know 47 though I have to think about what green is.
