Soup /diy/

So I just found an HDD motor. I got it from a disk I disassembled last year (I wanted the magnets and the plate).

What can I make with it? How can I power it?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry that the pictures look so weird, I had to crop them because of the filesize limit.

If you get some plates and magnets, you might be able to make a HDD.

You don't just "power" it, it requires an IC to drive it since it's a brushless motor.

Well, sorry, I guess... I don't know anything about electronics.

I do have an arduino and a HDD motor, what I don't have is the code.
Diy related image for somebody who can give a link or the code itself.

You can't drive a spindle motor like that directly from an arduino. You need to use the arduino to drive some H-bridges which connect to the motor. Code is just pulsing them in the correct sequence, only slightly harder than blinking an LED.

these things spin so fast you could make a dremel; but they have so much control ability it would be a shame to turn it into a saw, you would be better off making a helochopter; but not the toy ones a drone because with todays batteries they would have the lifting capacity. For that you would need at least 400 dollars in radio control equipment. If your going to spend 400 dollars on radio control, why not make an un maned space capsule. For this you would not need the hard drive motor though...

HDD motors don't have enough torque to turn anything much heavier than the load they are designed for.

(I find dremel tools are the same way)
