What does /diy/ think of my cat tower?

Funny thing is, I dont even have a cat. Im making these to sell to people. Im going to list this for $200. Its 4ft 5''.

Would you buy it?

Thats one of the flaws for my first tower. The platforms could be more stable but they are relativity sturdy and will support a cat.

I left excess string because its connected to a hook so the owner can adjust to his preference.

I dont have materials for tubes at this time. Keeping it simple.

Im making the same one but i'll be using 2 small L brackets on the sides and extending the supports.

I was thinking of also making more. Maybe get half a dozen towers and go to a street sale or festival. I could only imagine some girl dragging her boyfriend in to buying one for their cat.

Thanks but I think im only going to do the lower half sisal. Got to keep the aesthetic portion of the tower in mind for the owner. I think half the tower in sisal would suffice.

I bought it from a local carpet and flooring store near my house. I just went in and asked for remnants and he brought me in the back and I picked out a roll. It was 6' x 9' If my memory serves me right and I bought it for $10. I also returned to buy another roll near the same dimensions but a different shade.

I dont know the exact carpet but its a pretty expensive one normally, 2.80$ ft/sq I think. Just make sure its not looped carpet, the cats claws will rip it out.

You may think it's stable enough but seriously fill a duffle bag with clothes and toss it onto the top of it a dozen times to be sure. Move it away from the wall too, it won't always have something around it. Be sure to test from multiple angles.

And that price is ridiculous around here, but if you think you can sell it good luck. I would recommend making a few and getting a cute website together to make it clear you're legit. If I saw that for sale on craigslist I'd assume it was used or something.

Try to make your next one with a larger base. A rope-wrapped pole is nice too for extra scratchings, or a place to insert those cardboard boxes. Also you can make a 'cloth tube with crinkly shit in between the fabric so it makes noise when the cats go through' for less than a cardboard tube.

Nice OP.
I would lower the price, at least at first. Compared to pet smart, $200 is reasonable but I don't think people would be willing to pay as much from someone who is not as "reputable". Unfortunately, perception seems to be at least as important as quality to most people. There's also the assurance that they will be in business tomorrow and have a reputation to maintain, so you have some "insurance" against getting screwed that you don't have buying from an individual.

Definitely add some sisal or make it an optional extra. Cats love that shit and won't get tired of it like they do most things. At least a short run between the 1st and second platform(about 18" high so they can stand and claw at it). It's a lot of work and not cheap.

>Would you buy it?
fuck no, I might use your design to make one though. hehe
I really can't see anyone spending that much for a cat platform, but they must or petsmart wouldn't have dedicated so much space to display them.

I made this post for my cats recently and all four use it. The old one was completely clawed in half.

From a owners' perspective it looks good, but that material has a tendency to shed, personally I'd use common as fuck industrial rug for durability, grip for the cat and no shedding of fibers.

As an alternative to tubes, maybe consider a sharper angled pyramid, cats fucking love to climb slopes.
Also an easy way to do a solid base and a second hidey-hole

Easy to add ties on the sides if that tickles your fancy, the top tier can be as simple as a plate with a slim hole along the slope the cat has to squeeze though to get op top, that's a bonus, cats fucking love to squeeze through, that means larger "predators" can't follow them.

I've done street festivals. And as a matter of fact I've paid $250 several years ago for a two day festival. So if you do go to a $20 festival expect to be there with people selling keychains or weird trinkets that you dont want to look at. There are street festivals that are like $1500. It all depends on price points or volume. I once was in one where the kettle corn guy probably smoked everybody there profit wise. Having sold stuff in this price range what you will get at the right festival is; Can you make me one with plaid carpet? Pink carpet? How about a blue paisley? How about a green carpet on one shelf and a taupe color on the top shelf? Honestly price still doesnt bother alot of people. What does bother people. What you dont take credit card? What you cant make one 12 feet tall and have it by next week. So the more you sell it for the more one of a kind you have to deliver. Some artist handle these people very well. I dont. Why do you not want to buy what I loaded up and brought here and put alot of thought into.
