Me and my friends go 'urbexing' every now and then, and do a bit of dumpster diving and such, just wondering if anyone had any advice for moving and selling scrap metals from derelict buildings and such?
also share your finds (:

How does one into urbexing? Looks fun and challenging!

its all about walking about and spotting an abandoned looking area/building and then making your way inside by any means necessary then just lurking around seeing whatever there is to see

What kind of gear is recommended? What skills should someone work on if they want to start urbexing? How do you determine urbexing candidates? Do you follow a set formula or pattern when choosing these abandoned areas? How common are alarms and how do you deal with them? How do you explain this hobby to police if they show up?

>> No.449883

don't take anything. It ruins urbexing for everyone else

There are several abandoned looking houses in my area. Should I really just open up the door and walk in? Sounds dangerous as fuck. The only abandoned places I've been in, friends had already ok'd.

Have you ever broken into owned and occupied property? I'm most worried of going in somewhere, breaking/taking something then getting a visit from cops.

urbexing? This is how the hobos pretend being civilized meanwhile steal copper from some abandoned governmental building.

I feel like you keep trying to be as vague as possible. Your answers leave more questions.
>torches
As in flashlights, cutters, or both?
>knife
A hunting knife? A pocket knife? Paul Hogan's knife?
>thick soled, light shoes
Pick one or link to an example, please.
>durable clothing
So jeans? Leather? Kevlar?

all you actually NEED is a flashlight and some extra batteries and curiosity. but some other things will make the trip more enjoyable.
>small pocket knife
useful for cutting open tied shut doors and other little shit
>shoes
this really depends on you, i wear my merrell moab's for higher risk places because the soft soles make it easier to walk quietly and they are good for running (its better to hide unless you know for a fact they have spotted you)
but for caves or really wet places like drains i wear my belleville 700's because they are super durable and the goretex keeps my dry.
>clothing
just wear some jeans you wont mind fucking up (because you will destroy them eventually) and a t shirt. gloves are also nice
anything else you want some advice on?

>> No.449938

You really don't need anything other than a flashlight, a good thick pair of boots(rusty nails) and a multitool. You're looking around abandoned buildings, not infiltrating a high security compound. The more you have with you the worse it is if you get caught.

There's a few old abandoned factories around here, my favorite one is this huge metal plating plant, you can walk up to the roof and someone put some lawn chairs up there. All the office shit is still in there, papers, desks, computers, they must have just packed up and left.

well think, in an urban environment clothes are likely to get damaged so just wear tough trousers like jeans or combats, a shirt and jacket, and pack waterproofs
a flashlight, extra batteries
stanley size knife
nike dunks, hiking boots etc.
jesus christ its called inference, im sure you could have worked that out
>>449897
not occupied but definitely owned by somebody, just stay on guard

Most places that are abandoned are just that, abandoned. Nobody gives a shit about what happens to them as long as you aren't setting fires in there.

Oh, forgot to mention, some places that are abandoned do have guards, but it's rare. There's an old TB hospital a few towns away that's watched over.

You can be arrested for trespassing, I've never been caught, but some will arrest you, some will let you go. I take a camera with me always because industrial blight photography is my thing, so I'd imagine you might get off if you told them you're an art student working on a project.

Houses are no good for urbexing unless they're out in the middle of nowhere and you can get in without being seen by anyone. I've explored an old cabin, but it was in the woods so nobody was around. Where was this house and how was he caught?

>> No.449962

>>449951
best way is to hide somewhere you can keep an eye on things but can still get away if you need to. police are pretty damn lazy when it comes to abandoned places unless its a high security place. all the times ive ran into security or the police they end up sitting around the most obvious exits and watching the windows for a while. unless they see you in there or see you entering or exiting they will most likely just hang out for a while waiting for you to fuck up.

On the side of the road. No clue how he was caught, we had been going in there a lot to smoke and smash junk though so guess someone saw us and called the police, and he was there at the wrong time.

>> No.450007

that's called breaking and entering where I come from. if you take anything, be that a floater in the toilet or a laptop, it's burglary. if you leave anything there, it's vandalism.

>> No.450021

Germanfag here.
A couple of years ago, before it was destructed, I was used to chill out with my friends on a abadoned hospital's roof. We also explored the whole thing. It was in the middle of the woods together with a few houses . The old fuckers called the police every fucking time and we got never caught, because it was fucking huge. A lot of hobos and stoners were inside this thing, but they were all friendly. We carried torches and knifes with us and sometimes breathing masks because of the abest, which was the reason for closing it. It got destructed last year, very sad for us it was awesome you could see like 30 km from the top floors.
That's it.
Hopefully we'll find another building like this.

Huh urbexing is an interesting name.

Where I'm from we call that trespassing, breaking and entering, and larceny.
