get a multimedia player and plug it into your tv

Is that an HTC Hero? I absolutely loathed mine when I had to use it as a phone, but that was so long ago. Now I've turned it into a dedicated IP webcam, and it runs 24 hours a day with no problems.

Sucks as a phone.

Rocks as a low-powered embedded device.

>Computer consists of just a HDD, screen, and usb ports
Look into a Raspberry Pi.

What app are you using for this? I've been playing around with the 'ipcam' app on my old G1 and G2's but it consistantly crashes the phones after a few hours.

>usb to d sub adaptor
lolololol

dude im sorry to laugh but come on
if a hard drive simply stores information
and you connect to directly to a screen
what part is going to make a video?

cheapest way may actually be to get one of those $60 android micro PCs.

the way you wanna do it, no, most USB ports on monitors and a lot of tvs (that don't use it for media) are for firmware and factory shit.

simplest setup would be a Raspberry Pi like >>438078 said.

if you are feeling clever you could use a old phone like in your picture, with HDMI out and an adaptor (and a hdmi to dvi cable if need be), then install 7 or Xp, which you can find online.

Rasberry pie is your best option

>> No.439690

No, Raspberry PI isn't the best option.

The best option is a MK808, or similar. A friend sold me his for 25€ (~33$).
Best thing ever.

I would go with a marsboard over a raspi. better cpu and gpu and the price increase is minimal.

Guess it depends on what you want and how much effort you're prepared to put in, personally I'd go with the board with the best community support which currently is the Pi.

Fair point good sir.

The dev community around the mars is pretty good but far less then that of the Pi. so for support wise, the Pi would be better.

are you guys retarded?

OP IS ASKING IF HE CAN CONNECT HD TO VGA AND USE IT AS A COMPUTER.

I think I'm well within my rights when I say that setting up a Linux Distro is a bit out of his area of expertise.

Plugging in an Android mini pc is not.

no!

Best option for you my friend would be as said earlier, to buy an android micro computer.

But it all depends on what kind of stuff you want to do with said computer. If the reason you are asking, is that you have images/movies/music on that hdd and would like to watch them (without doing any real computer related stuff other than play/pause/etc). If you have a somewhat new smartTv or similar that has usb, it most likely can open and play/view files on your hdd.

well i say no, but if you put something else than a hdd in your hdd enclosure (a raspi for example) and drill holes for usb/hdmi etc.. yes it is..
