can we get a thread on removing some of the annoying safety devices they now put of items. I took the chain break of my husquvarna saw and now no more problems when cutting dense brush. What you have to do is remove the spring inside the cover housing the tensioner which goes over the chainsaw bar.another device that annoys me are the new safety gas cans i haven't found a good way to circumvent those so ive been looking for older gas cans to buy. I would also like to remove the governor off my truck.

some riding lawnmowers are arguably less-safe due to the number of "safety" features.

it's been a few years, but i worked for a guy who had one where you had to take both hands off the steering wheel to back up with the blade turning. of course, they expected you to turn the blade off every time you backed up.

it also had a switch to cut off the engine when you were not in the seat. so, when you hit a bump and didn't weigh 200 lbs, it would shut off for a second and backfire when it came back on.

>> No.423570

the gas cans are ridiculous now i have one that has two buttons you have to depress in order to get it to pour. The buttons also stick and when you finally get it to pour so i usually spill gasoline. I bout another one with a different safety device located on the spout that you had to pull upward on it which also makes it a pain in the ass to pour. I owned a weed eater that had a damn clutch in it that would stop it from rotating when it hit something too hard.

Fuck gas cans, holy shit.

Who fucking designs those fucking caps, I want them flogged.

I've lost maybe like 5 gallons of gas total from those leaky bastard safety caps they have now. The plastic also wears out fairly quickly so you are constantly buying new gas cans with regular use.

I had to peruse several local antique shops until I could find enough old metal gas cans to meet my needs.

On the up side, I've had like 10 women at gas stations ask me to help them with the caps on those pieces of shit.

>> No.423633

For the gas cans, try mil surplus stores or order online. You can get used or new jerry cans and the steel spouts for them, but they can get a bit pricey these days. NATO stuff is usually free of the retarded safety features.

i like how safe the new gas cans are with their short spouts. they are so safe they are unusable for putting gas into a car without spilling gas everywhere. are gas cans available anymore that have a long enough spout to be suitable for putting cas safely into a car?

in some US states it isn't legal for businesses to sell the NATO cans for fuel use anymore. Thats why some places selling them online say "for restoration purposes only".

I just keep an eye out for the safety plastic cans that have a safety-feature that looks like it is easy to disable or remove. The pour-spouts on some are pretty nice, once you remove the idiot safety-tab thing you're supposed to press every time to pour it.

Also we note: I am informed that the newer military/NATO gas cans (the plastic ones) are tougher than fuck-all. The metal cans get dented and rust.

-------

If you were seriously hard-core over the subject, you could go to a container company (a place that sells bottles) and get some carboy jugs w/spouts from them. There are some that are sold as "petrochemical-safe".
Finding ones colored red might be a hassle. Paint just garely holds onto polyethylene anyway; aint no way it's gonna stay with gasoline splashing on it.

Also in most US states now,,,,,,,, it isn't legal to dispense fuel into anything that is not manufactured as a fuel container, but that detail is debatable.

Anyways, yeah, there's a lot of things they do that's good (for example; chainsaw safety gear is now mandatory in the workplace), but is then mediated by some utter retardation they'll pull out about safe working heights and shit (one scaffolder i know had to put full safety gear on to go up 12inches to put a roof on a scaff. I knew someone that died when a chainsaw kicked on them and gashed open their upper thigh. The blood trail went about 10 feet and they fell over dead. He had removed the kick guard teeth about a year prior to that because he was a stupid fucking hill billy that thought nothing ever bad would happen to him and he was a "man" because of it. Luckily, he didn't have any children.

An uncle (married into the family) of mine had removed the little metal fender above his chainsaw's engine. About a month later the chain snapped and whipped through his shoulder. He had multiple surgeries on his shoulder and had chronic pain the rest of his life. He life about ten years after that but the pain meds he was taking ended up killing him. His son is just as stupid and has had multiple accidents and has lost the mobility in most of his fingers and his knees because of stupid shit just like that. Unfortunately, he too has bread stupid children.

A lucky cousin my mine had all the safety gear on the chainsaw and on himself. The chainsaw kicked hard when he was trimming limbs, where he couldn't dig in the anti-kick teeth. It went directly for his upper thigh and nailed it. However, he had on a pair of those anti-chainsaw chaps and only suffered a massive ugly bruise for the next 2 weeks or more. He's an airforce pilot now. Luckily, he has 2 kids of his own.

Yes, most gas pumps have a sticker on them stating this. I've seen rednecks pull up with 5-gallon buckets, fill them up, put them on the back of their flatbed truck and drive off, even without securing them or putting lids on them. I noted that they had those mufflers that came up both sides of the cab and ended at the top of the cab. All they needed was a single backfire to get off a spark and I'd be hearing about them on the news.

Some of those safety laws are to help protect people from other people's stupidity like that.

That sort of shit should NEVER happen. You plan every fucking cut and consider every potential hazard. If something happens and you didn't think of it first you have already fucked up. All your accident-prone friends and relatives would be better off learning how to use the equipment properly than relying a safety gimmicks.

I used to work at a gas station. The most hilarious one I ever saw was the guy how filled a styrofoam cup with gasoline. When he came up to pay I told him he wouldn't make it back to his car. He didn't even make it off the lot before the bottom fell out of the cup.

even with planning, care and attention, accidents happen.

Rule number one in my place of work:

###***EVERYTHING IN HERE IS DESIGNED TO KILL, MAIM AND DISMEMBER YOU. SAFETY HAS A REASON***###

Underneath it there used to be a picture of the boss with his two missing fingers (still pissing blood in the picture) because he wasn't using a push stick. apparently the pic grossed out too many folk though.

You are better off learning to respect the equipment and use it properly that to place your trust in safety devices. I used that old Mac 10/10 for years without the slightest injury because I EXPECTED it to kick back, pinch and try to pull me over into the blade EVERY TIME I pulled the trigger. The safety crap just makes people careless.

/diy/ i've been getting the building itch, but didn't know what to make until the other day.

I smoke hashish culturally, and therefore have a glass bong to do so.
However, I want to build a new one myself from some basic things. I had a plan, but now I'm not sure what I can use as a hose, since I have no idea if different plastics will kill my ass.
The only requirements for the hosing are that it needs to be flexible and safe for smoke to pass through. Cheap would be a plus.
Also, what metals can I NOT use. From what I understand copper is out. Not sure about brass.

Any help?
