Hey /diy/nosaurs

I got jumped yesterday at 4:30 in the afternoon with upwards of 7 witnesses, so I decided I need to get myself some protection so this doesn't happen again.

I was looking into tasers, and found that you can make homemade ones out of disposable cameras. Have any of you done this? is it effective, or more of a gag? Thanks for the help guys.

>> No.407288

From what I have seen from the camera thing is that can really burn someone then shocking

>> No.407295

>disposable cameras

Not really effective since you have to wait some seconds to give a single shock.

But you can do homemade tasers if you have some free time and you get some electric components/plans

>> No.407298

The camera zaps people by discharging a cap used for the camera flash. It wont create a sustained charge. It'll just produce a comical (albeit glorified) static shock before someone proceeds to beat your ass. Also you're talking about stun guns. I'm under the impression tasers actually fire projectiles. I'd like to think a real stun gun, which can be had for cheaper than a disposable camera, is also more effective through light clothing (compared to a cap).

>> No.407302

most stun-guns have output currents so low that they are not effective, and you can't build a stun-gun that is effective without the risk of killing people (like real Tasers occasionally do)

a homemade knife makes way more sense

>> No.407409

Pretty sure you can't build a knife that is effective without the risk of killing people either, unless your argument is that if you're gonna risk killing people, a sharpened spoon is easier than a homemade stun gun.

>more of a gag
It is more of a gag, I made one, shocked myself a bunch of times, it hurts, but in no way incapacitates. It's not constant either, more just a single shock and then 20-30 recharge.

As a /k/ommando, I sort of feel obligated to recommend you get a gun instead. Tasers, the one that launches a projectile, are a little pricey and only allow you to get one shot off before a rather timely reload. A stun gun obviously requires you to get close to the attacker(s). Pepper spray, which is definitely nice, is an extremely poor option in enclosed or tight areas. Of course, I'm assuming you live in an area that allows conceal carry or firearms. You really shouldn't put your well being or possibly your life on the line with a taser you built out of old parts. I'm willing to give you more advice if you'd like, but it may be more fitting to post on /k/ about it.

Look a flash/ stun guns. You can make them, and with a simple push of a button, BLIND/ and or shock someone to either
a) BLIND THEM, harder to hurt you if blind!!
b) Stun them, on the ground and helpless/ not u
c) Get attention/ confuse/ make a getaway think smokebombs without the chemicals and/or required permits
d) If you can do it/understand it/ afford it:
directional high power speakers (Sonic Boom@!$%)

P.S. weapons is where you want to go, this (self defense via active device/motion) is a weapon, even if used in self defense it can be considered as such.

Seriously,just WTF.

OP,if you plan on carrying a weapon, don't let it be a knife or some stupid shit like that. Get a gun, learn how to use it. And be prepared to kill someone with it if you pull it out.

Don't be some fucknut that flashes it.

Seriously, home made knives,or store bought knives to defend yourself? Does someone want to be stabbed with their own shit?

dismantle an alarm clock, get some sheet steel (the flat steel stuff, don't know word for it) only get small amount of sheet steel 20cm by 20cm.
glue the number pad onto one side, have the wires running make sure at least half of them are visible on the same side of number pad. connect them to battery, get your self some string or cord, drill two holes on the top side of the sheet steel tie the cord so it acts like a necklace, wear the alarm clock hidden under coat, or shirt (depending what you wear) then when someone jumps you you pull up shirt or coat revealing the alarm clock that looks like a bomb. have a switch so when you press it the clock screen begins to count down from say 15 seconds. now this fool is mugging you you reveal the ''bomb'' he freaks out (if he doesn't realize their is a timer begin counting down and hint to the numbers) this mugger is now running from you.

Some counties do actually give out CCWs quite fairly, others are pretty much impossible to get unless you know the Sheriff personally (i.e. LA county). That said, as far as knife state laws are concerned, CA isn't that bad. For folding knives, the only real limitations are you can't carry balisongs or autos over 2". For manual folders there is no length limit so nothing stopping you from carrying a 5-6 inch folder as long as its not auto. Just be sure to keep it clipped to pocket and not riding in pocket as the latter can be seen as concealed which is illegal.

For fixed blades, as long as its visible no length limits here either. The only big limitation is that the blade can't have an edge on both sides (i.e. stiletto). So that said, legally if you wanted you could carry a single-edged sword. Sure people will probably call the cops are you'll get harrassed but "legally" its fine. Just like til a couple years ago you could legally open carry an unloaded AR-15 in public in CA until they made it conceal carry only.

As for shit like batons, brass knuckles, etc... are illegal in most states not just CA. Impact weapons generally are illegal in most places.

But all that said, city laws are a different story and depending on where, can and will be more strict. LA is an example, in which case folders are limited to 3" or less.

I got mugged when I was 22 (2 years ago) by a group of teenagers. About 16 years old I guesstimate. I fought with all my might, literally broke my hand on their faces, but I still ended up in the intensive care unit. There were no witnesses to the act itself, but I had to stumble more than a kilometer (0.6miles) in the general direction of the hospital before I found somebody willing to drive me the rest of the way. I encountered several people (6) that refused to help me along the way, before meeting the helpful soul. This all happened passing through an upscale neighborhood in Ghent, a modern western city with a decent friendly reputation and very low crime rates for a city of its size.
