is it possible to power a home audio subwoofer, given that the power source after the AC to DC converter inside can be bypassed?

is this even possible? never done something like this, or even looked into the schematics yet.

inverters are out of the question.

hurr durr
is it possible to power a home audio subwoofer from 12v from a car*

>> No.349641

It can be done if you know what you're doing.

I dont, for the most part. I know that a lot of electronics are dc voltage inside, so its it really just a matter of finding out where to put 12v to, assuming it is 12v? I'm guessing the power draw would be similar to a car amp, so im not worried about that.

Won't be 12V, it'll be higher.
If you're lucky the + and - voltages will be close to a multiple of 12 and you can put batteries in series to get usable rail voltages.

More importantly what happens if you plug a sub directly into a wall outlet.

Feel dat 60hz bass?

You will have to build a switched power supply, and that will cost more than buying a cheap car amp of roughly the same wattage. While the voltage inside of the amp is converted into DC, it is not 12v...not even close. So, no.

It will probably need a symmetric 2×24V supply. You would have to have 4 batteries in series for that, with the center connection wired too.
Reconsider your inverter.
