Anything that goes in your field of view while driving (except the rear-view mirror obviously). Mounting a GPS to your windshield is illegal for the same reason.

Something made vastly easier in the very recent past by the spread of tablet computers. GPS speedo and map, speed camera zones and any kind of data could be piped through that sort of device..

Torque for the Android platform has a HUD toggle. Just place the screen facing upwards on the dash and voila. Use it with Tasker for an awesome dash replacement system. This is what I run in my car.

I use ZP Dashboard on my Galaxy Nexus. I have ads blocked, so it doesn't have that.

GM and Nissan have both made them. Doing it 'right' Could try studying hteir repair guides and parts.
